After having been recommended by a local hotelier, I was looking forward to a good Brasserie meal. The whole experience was steadily dragged down during the evening by the surly, miserable, unsmiling and generally lousy attitude of the 2 waitresses. There was no greeting or...welcome on arrival... I was handed a menu asked what I wanted to drink. My order was taken, the food was delivered, my plates were cleared, and all without a single word. I speak french and was polite, and tried to be friendly and all I got back was indifference and to be ignored. When I asked for the bill, the waitress literally mumbled something over her shoulder as she walked away... When I asked again 5 minutes late...
Visited the old town of Laon and stopped off at Les Chenizelles for a coffee. Sat outside on a beautiful sunny morning and watched as people strolled around this beautiful, but very quiet old town. Stepped inside to pay the bill and the aroma of...food from a table, just inside the restaurant was enough to convince us that we would like to revisit the following day, for a 70th birthday lunch celebration. Indeed, we did. A very pleasant lunch in a traditional French restaurant. The Lady (owner/manageress) could not have been more helpful. this is a beautiful authentic brasserie with local oriented and a beautiful ambiente in central location. the problem was the service. we ordered starter and net, the starters were excellent and quite large portions. the net did not arrive and we felt full, so it went with the flow. They consisted twice to order desserts, so it was clear that the order was not processed. about 90 minutes after the order, we went to pay and confusing ruled as our main thing had been done. I told the owner what happened in French and he apologized. at the end we were not hungry and saved on the expensive cursor. I guess my advice would be that a cure is probably enough, based on its portion sizes.
We got the last table on a Wednesday night , so it was buzzing. Great front of house. Lovely appetizers given to us straight away. It felt so very French. We both ate from the cheapest 'formule ' menu and it was very good value. Would...really recommend!
