I only managed to eat at Tontons once during my visit, but I would go back again and again if I could. It was a warm evening during the annual Velo Vintage event in Saumur, so lots of people were on the Place St. Pierre. We sat on the terrace at Tontons and watched the people roaming around in their vintage dress and listened to the accordionist at the restaurant next door. The host greeted us like familiar friends and was very attentive to all his diners, in spite of having a full house. I can't remember everything I ate, but I do know that everything was delicious and well prepared.
Located in the main square, this is the place to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious lunch or dinner. There was live jazz in the square when we are there on a Thursday evening. We were only having a drink but it was so nice we stayed for dinner. The menu is on a blackboard and there is no wine list. You get to try any wine they have until you find one you like ! The staff are very friendly and accommodating, food is good too.
What a lovely place! Like your grandad's house! Full of atmosphere and joie de vivre . Nice simple menu with tasty food, well presented and prepared with pride. Had a Breton chicken main. Soooooo tender and tasty. Massive wine list with good range of prices to choose from. Couple who own it are quirky like the place and very pleasant indeed. A must if you are in the area. Make sure to book though. Many turned away disappointed!
I'd been in the town for only a few hours when I discovered this little gem.Wonderful food, friendly helpful service & a great range.As a non meat eater I was a little concerned about the meat free choices but need not have worried.I'm working in the region & when my friends and family visit I'll definitely be taking them here.... , it's really lovely & very reasonably priced too.

We was taking a cofee in the morning, on bistro teras. Excelent cofee and you can buy a croissont from the " bulangerie" beside and savurate it together with your cafee. Placed in the old square of the city, is a place where we shall drink more cofee for sure.
Stopped here for lunch during a day visit to Saumur. Great menu and delicious food. Good kids menu as well (meat or fish choice). As a family of five we sampled many dishes during our 3 course meal and all were lovely, using regional and seasonal produce.
Had high expectations from TA ratings. Friendly manager. Food had great ingredients, but was a little boring and bland, still. No sauces or spices with the leg of lamb. Prices reflect the location, but not too bad.
Small nice restaurant on St Pierre Square. Welcome and very friendly service. In the plate, it's nice! Very good value for money. Address to be shared.

Mushroom starter rather good Lamb shank was lovely but the potatoes and veg were on the cool side Desserts were expensive and a bit "pre-prepared"
Beer and a bite in this central wee bar. Service slow when busy. Great place to watch people passing by.
