We visited L’Escapade on two evenings during a one-week stay at a nearby gîte. It was a half-hour walk along unlit farm tracks but well worth the trek. It is what you always hope a roadside French restaurant to be: unpretentious, with a friendly welcome and an emphasis on top quality fresh ingredients, well cooked. Great value too! Starters of warm chicken gizzard salad and moules marinières were delicious and as big as a main course. Mains of skate wing (with caper butter and frîtes) and two substantial hake fillets (in a creamy sauce with sauté potatoes) were melt-in-the-mouth moreish. All washed down with a zingy Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie. Recommended without hesitation.
