We were driving down the back roads to Cluny hoping to find somewhere for lunch when we drove past L 'Etape Charollaise in what seemed like 'the middle of nowhere ' and decided to 'give it a go '. Wow, were we impressed with the experience. A pretty two room indoor dining area, excellent service, and an extensive menu impressed us from the start. We were served a delicious cold amuse bouche to start (though appetites needed no whetting) my husband followed this with a Charolais steak dish while I had the vegetarian tart. The welcome is perfect, the attention is there with in particular the appetizers which accompany the aperitif or the sweets served with the coffee, the dishes are excellent, the presentation worthy of a starred restaurant and the smile the waitresses more than compensate for the decor, whose slightly old-fashioned char...

After a visit to Genouilly on a Saturday Morning we decided to stop at the L'etape Charollaise for lunch on our return home. As this was a weekend the restaurant was nearly full, which bodes well for its food, and pleasant atmosphere. We were made welcome by the staff and ordered the menu du jour (4 courses) with a glass of kir Vin Blanc. We have visited this restaurant previously, and never been dissapointed. On this occasion with the friendly atmosphere and good wholesome food we were not dissapointed and would recommend this venue to anyone who was visiting the local area. There is a gite not far away which makes this an ideal venue for a quiet evening meal in pleasant surroundings.
