It's rare to have a disappointing Mexican meal, but Los Portales might be an exception. Right from the start, they charge for chips and salsa, which seems nice until you see the steep price. Unfortunately, things don't improve; the tap beer is served warm and flat, there are no options for custom orders, and the cocktail prices can be quite shocking when the bill arrives. Moreover, the decor may not appeal to everyone. I would recommend looking for a different dining option.
The food at Los Portales is outstanding, but the staff doesn't seem very cheerful and are often lacking smiles. During my first visit, I ordered menudo with toast. Unfortunately, I discovered a long woman's hair in the menudo, and one of the toasts had a plastic twist tie still attached. Despite the disappointing service, I’m giving 5 stars for the delicious food and 1 star for the unfriendly staff.
Some of the best Mexican food you will find in the Minneapolis area, fast and friendly people always willing to make you some delicious authentic food. Definitely a top place to go when looking for delicious food at an affordable price. A pretty large variety from tacos all the way to seafood. Come on in and support the Spanish culture, much to see and learn.
Everything tasted fantastic, but I did have an issue with my delivery. I didn't receive a plastic spoon or even a napkin, so I had to eat my soup with a fork because it was all I had at work. If you order delivery, I recommend adding a note to request napkins and utensils. It seems like those should be included automatically, especially for a delivery order. Book a table now
I ordered the enchiladas and tacos from here. The tacos, enchiladas rice and beans were delicious. The only thing were the enchiladas were too spicy for my taste. This left me feeling pretty sad, because they were so good...I’ll stick with the blander items, because my palate is that Minnesotan
I’ve ordered the fajita mix multiple times, and it’s absolutely delicious. I always request a roasted jalapeño to be added to the mix, and once I slice it up, it elevates the meal. I like to add my own cheese and warm it in the oven.
The carne asada or grilled steak is the best I've tasted so far. They put a garlic sauce on the meat before grilling and it comes with beans/rice I recommend. The torta is ok, the natural drinks and the sauces are average.

Pambazo is my favorite! It reminds me of when my grandma would make me these visiting her in Mexico City. Inside is a mix of chorizo with potatoes.
