We arrived in July for a night in Wildschönau and could hardly find open to dinner. It is very quiet here in summer, although there are many things to do. We searched TripAdvisor app for a recommendation and found this place. It was a short drive from Oberau up some steep and narrow mountain roads, but the ride was only worth the amazing view over the area. Hildegarde is the owner and is a real character. She speaks a little English and we only spoke a little German, but we came by. Note that the menu is only in German, as this is not really a tourist restaurant, but somewhere where the locals go. There is a standard menu with many chips and chips and a load of other things we had difficulty...
This restaurant is a jewel, authentic decor and Austrian cuisine, but all tastes are for. Enjoy the most magnificent views of the valley below and the surrounding mountains from the beautiful terrace or through the windows of the cozy restaurant in winter. We have visited many times over the years and have never been disappointed. The food is excellent, homemade and the portions generous. Hildegard is the perfect host so everyone feels special!
My wife and I and kids came to eat here we ordered some drinks and said can we pay with a card tonight and the lady said we don't take cards so we thought we will have to go to a bank and get some cash but she said you can come tomorrow and pay the bill whenever you like, so we ordered our food, the food was to die for, really good tasting and fresh, will eat here very soon can't wait, this is the best in the area!!!
A pretty steep walk to this restaurant, but worth every step. Traditional homemade dishes served in a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. All courses delicious and generous in size.
