This is not really a restaurant it is a combination of small cafe and small pub. It does not offer a full menu of meals, just freshly made bacon or sausage sandwiches in the mornings and packed sandwiches, pasties, cake, etc all day. It serves tea and coffees and offers vegan oat milk as an alternative to dairy. Beer, cider, etc are severd during licensing hours. My bacon sandwiches were very tasty, a welcome breakfast having got the train this far after arriving at Harwich on the ferry. There is outdoor and indoor seating: in the outdoor seating it is sometimes hard to find anywhere which is not close downwind of a smoker.

Happily skipped our connection to Harwich to enjoy the experience of this celebrated and rightfully busy refreshment room. We enjoyed our bacon rolls quickly prepared and served with a smile. A glass of the well kept real ale was a perfect accompaniment! we look forward to our return.

Pleasantly surprised. Stopped here for a drink whilst waiting for a train back to Harwich. I had a cracking pint of Guinness and my wife said her wine was pretty good too. Unusual to find a decent ‘pub’ on a railway station : Can imagine it does well when Ipswich are at home too!

A bowl of glorious homemade vegetable soup for £2.50. What's not to like?! It was fabulous. The person who served me was friendly and helpful. Top marks. If I lived locally I'd call in regularly to eat there, that's how good it was. Book a table now

Had breakfast at the station before setting out on the next stage of the Essex Way. The bacon sandwich was delicious and very good value at £3.70 with a cup of tea thrown in. A wonderful start to an excellent day's walking.

Not the biggest of stations on the busy London to East Anglia line but it is home to a buffet which is licensed! Real bonus and run by nice people. Having a train delayed is not so much of a problem here!!

This restaurant is suitable for a quick stop, but not necessarily for a full meal, especially if you are waiting for a train or bus. It was busy when we visited, so they must be doing something right.

I don't use this station much, but was impressed by fresh filter coffee with cream and a freshly made bacon sandwich for £4. By 9am it was packed and no wonder! I wish them every success Book a table now
