People tell you to make a restaurant reservation for Christmas Eve in Cartagena at least 2-3 months in advance. We were surprised to find a place in Marea only 3 weeks in advance. Now we understand why. The location of the restaurant is amazing as the only one near the docks. The atmosphere was nice (two GREAT singers and a moderate DJ), and the service was reasonable (although a little slow, and the place was not almost full). But the food was one of the worst (maybe even the worst) we had on our whole trip, including much cheaper places. It seems they didn't even try it. For example, seafood was not fresh. In Cartagena! Great food. The service was terrible. It is amazing how one of the most expensive restaurants in Cartagena has on the same levels as a Waffle House service. We sat at a table and ignored the waiting staff. After almost twenty minutes I flag a server and asked for a bottle of water for the table. After serving the water, I had to request menus. The server brought two menus for our seven tops The food was server late and apathetic.
My friends arrived at 8pm for our reservations and could not be seated. The hostess was rude and made us wait whil she had her coworker make arrangements for an alternative table. We were told we were lucky because all the tables were taken and only a slim availability. I suspect with an all black group the service was absolute terrible. The plus, it is a very beautiful space.
Hard to get to , inside a Convention center, great service by staff, nice view of the Muelle. Plates were small and ordinary but i recommend the Octopus with beans.
