If you 're coming from Innsbruck, please check first if you really want to take the highway (which we did to go there.. you will end up in a lot of tolls (9 euros for going, then 5 euros to go from Matrei to the restaurant,...and then 9 euros for the highway again to return ! To the restaurant: We arrived at about 13.30 on a monday, and still the whole outdoor area was kind of packed, so we had to wait for a couple of minutes till we got a table. The menu is small, typical austrian/tyrolean. We had a tirolean tris and a schweinsbraten and both dishes were really really good. after each climb or ski tour to mr. serles, the "altar of tirol" must also go to the ski boot in winter as they have a natural sledge with lighting in the night. good traditional food. the restaurant belongs and guided by mönchen since 'maria waldrast' is actually a palte. next to the building, opposite the entrance of the church, you will find the mysterious fountain that gives out the 'forest raster water', which is a source of health, youthful beauty in any case it is the most delicious water I have ever drunk. many people come with bottles and bring it home. beautiful walk to the monastery restaurant: about 1h for the lazy: they can drive by paying a small fee at the tor where the forest...
delicious local cuisine. homemade with love. amazing goulash soup and late zle with cheese. same menu as 99 of all restaurants in tirol, but completely different quality. do not miss this restaurant.
I had the bratwurst with cooked kartoffels and loved every bite, the rest of our party chose other option, but all enjoyed them. large eating in a beautiful environment
