About 5 minutes after I arrived the waitress got round to taking my drink order. 15 minutes later, no drink in sight, she tried to give me someone else's bill. When I pointed out that I hadn't even had anything yet she took my drink order again, along with my food order. The drink arrived in another 5 minutes or so and after 45 minutes with still no food in sight, I paid for the drink (she was confused about what I was even paying for! and left for the Kartoffelsack restaurant across the square that managed to serve me everything in 10 minutes flat. We stopped by needing a break from the highway and it’s boring restaurants. Lovely city, and we were pleased to sit outside. The main warm dishes are schnitzel, and the 3 types we tried were excellent (they had 10-12 types all ranging between 11-13 EUR). I had the one with mushroom sauce, and it was super nice. And my 9-year old had fried potatoes and a fried egg for 4 EUR. We will definitely stop by here next time. Fast and efficient service when we where there at 3pm.
Ended up in Alsfeld after getting lost on the autobahn. Lovely old town with lots of character. We found the Marktcafe while looking around. Luckily we arrived just before closing, which was quite early in the evening. The service and food was very good, Kartoffel Puffers coated in Ham and cheese and my old favourite Jägerschnitzel with mushroom sauce and fries. Both were with a salad which was fresh and tasty.
Even though we visited this place with kids, we could not get any attention from waiters for the whole 20 minutes! Young waiters are not able to speak one word in English avoid this place.
Great selection of delicious dishes, no matter what meal, the market café scores through the great location on the Markplatz and its friendly staff!
