If your in cairns on holiday or you live here. You must eat at Matsuri. Absolutely the best food in Cairns. The lunch menu is diverse and very reasonably priced. Matsuri is licensed and have a large selection of local, interstate and international beers to choose from. I always get a Plum Wine because it's delicious! There is a chef who only does sushi . Matsuri is a husband and wife owned business and they go out of their way to make sure your well looked after. The seafood is fresh delivered daily and only the best local produce is used. I travel to Cairns a lot for work. The first time I came here, I liked the sashimi so much (I went for lunch), that I decided to come back for dinner. That was 4 years ago. I've been coming here on and off for dinner since then! The atmosphere is great, Masa and the team are fantastic and I always feel welcomed (even if I'm only there for work). When I'm travelling with someone, I always recommend or taken them to Matsuri. My favourite is the karaage chicken set meal. Meals are always well cooked and prepared relatively quickly.
The fish was pretty blah. The 8piece nigiri and sushi that we ordered was lackluster. There was two double pieces, and they put too much rice, and the fish quality was mediocre. My wife got ramen which was a little bland. Plus for having great support for our gluten free friend and the staff was nice.There are better mid priced Japanese places, try Wawawa.
Quaint small premises. The food is nice without being amazing. Some portions are quite large (the sea food ramen) and others are a bit modest (chicken terriyaki).All in all in it was a nice dinner but we wouldn't rush back. The service staff were very good.

First time dining here with friend. I'm not familiar with Japanese food so I let my friend order a few dishes to share and he nail it. The food if amazing, very tasty. But they could changes they wine menu. Will definitely come back.
This is a small eatery with outside seating..so I am a little reluctant to say how great the food and ambience is...but I will...this is the best Japanese in Cairns..SO popular and for good reason!
Went here alone and had the sushi special, sake and seaweed salad. The sushi was so so. Very mediocre in taste. $45 all up and wished I went to Sushi Train. The service was great.
Had chicken katsu with rice and the chicken was fresh and crispy. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal. If you are not too hungry you could share one main course with someone.

Had lunch here would highly recommend staff friendly service fast the meals were really nice with great flavours and I would definitely eat here again.
