Growing up in East Harlem, I've always been around Mexican food, and it's one of my favorite cuisines when dining out. The food here is just ok, in my opinion. I'm not sure how to describe it since it's not bad, but it's definitely not food that I would daydream about or crave to eat again. On my last visit, I ordered the shrimp quesadilla. The quesadilla was pretty small and a bit oily. The presentation was also lacking with only 2 sliced tomatoes and guacamole on the plate. People seem to be drawn here for the margaritas. I often walk past this place, and it seems to always be busy, so I thought I’d give it a try. I ordered online and took it to-go. I got the Enchiladas Combinadas with 3 cheese enchiladas. It came with rice and beans and was $24.99 with tax. Honestly, I wasn’t very impressed. I’m from Texas, so I’m picky about my Mexican food. My biggest complaint was that the red sauce wasn’t very good. I wish they had a chile con carne or similar option. Overall, the food could be better and is overpriced for what you get.
Love the decor. Every restaurant wants to be described as lively and vibrant. However, this preference on the part of restaurant owners means that the acoustics are wretched and preclude the ability to engage in conversation with dinner companions unless one yells. The inability to converse in normal tones undermines an otherwise delightful and delicious meal.
Really tasty and reliable. The Acapulco platter was a great pick with a beef taco, chicken enchilada and chicken tostada $23.95) and rice and beans. Indoor and outdoor seating. Good service. Good margaritas. The sirloin steak topped with tequila and jalapeño butter was a winner.
