Hostess crabby and unhelpful. Asked on phone if the had gluten free options and she told me that I should look at the menu and know what I can have. I asked if it was marked on the menu she said no but you should know what you can and cannot eat. Almost didn't go then. But thought we would at least check it out. Walked in and asked if they had a gluten free menu... They did... So why not just tell me on the phone. Hostess was not happy about anything... Asked for a table not a booth... Many were empty... She sat us at one but said well if you sit there instead of a booth you will have to wait longer. We said fine. With in a couple of minutes up walks our server Nancy and makes everything rig...
Today we had the best server for breakfast! I wish I could remember her name so I could give her a shout-out! We were seated by the kitchen door, and she had short, trendy hair. She was both funny and entertaining! The service was excellent, and the food was amazing, as always!
This was our first visit, and we were not disappointed. Coming from Britain, it was a fantastic experience to dine in an authentic diner. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the food was amazing—there was plenty of it! I highly recommend this place.

I had the belt Buster Burger my wife had the grilled fish sandwich it was the best and we will definitely go back when we are this Way Again from St Pete.
Never been to mel's before the food was outstanding and very reasonally priced fed a family of three for under 50 bucks each meal.
Very good food, we have been there several times, great food and great service and we will definitely go back!!!
