Without a doubt, the best pulled pork, hush puppies, slaw, and warm vinegar-based sauce I've had since visiting Allen & Sons near Chapel Hill, NC. That's a bold statement, considering I first enjoyed Allen & Sons in 1973 and have sampled every barbecue place I could find since then. It's puzzling why many competitors fail to understand that cool or room temperature sauce simply doesn't compare to heated or warmed versions. The Midwood smokehouse was not on our radar but a search led us to it. It is a true BBQ joint that really delivers on atmosphere, friendly service at the bar and at your table, excellent food, and very generous portions. We both ordered the smallversion and it was all we could do to eat it all. My brisket was excellent and came with one side. I picked collard greens andthey were great but it also came with some very tasty hush puppies and some pickled cucumbers and onions that reminded me of oldfashioned ?refrigerator pickles ?. I don?t live in Columbia but this will definitely be a must visit next time I am in town.
We visited on Thursday and were excited to find that they had brisket! As Texans who love smoking brisket at home, we were delighted. The food was fantastic, and the Texas brisket sandwiches were a standout. My son ordered the brisket plate, while my daughter chose the crispy wings, and both of them really enjoyed their meals. Since this is a Texas-based establishment, the only thing we felt was missing was some pecan pie, but they did have pecan cobbler, which was a nice treat! We had Sarah as our server, who was very kind, attentive, and loving personality. We ordered a brisket plate with homemade slaw and bacon wrapped jalapeños, pulled pork and brisket nachos, and 2 kids pulled pork plates. This was the best brisket I haveever eaten. This is how brisket is supposed to be cooked. I?ve had brisket from KY, TN, and Texas, and this by far was the mostmoist and flavorful. We finished it off with homemade banana pudding. It was excellent, almost as good as my grandmother wouldhave made. Definitely dreaming of coming back here.

Great overall service and food. I had the meat platter which consisted of 4 proteins and 2 sides $30). The pork ribs were really tasty and the meat was tender, the brisket was good as well the other two were good, nothing outstanding). I enjoyed thebbq beans and the Mac and cheese a lot. For dessert I had the pecan cobbler, which was a great ending for my meal. It was a lotof food I had to take half of it home), and service on point.
This restaurant has undoubtedly the best BBQ I've ever tasted. I ordered the burnt ends, bacon-wrapped jalapeños, and banana pudding. The burnt ends were juicy and bursting with flavor, while the bacon-wrapped jalapeños were packed with taste and had the perfect amount of spice. The large banana pudding was exceptional as well. They also offer a great selection of bourbon. I highly recommend this place!
Context: we have eaten at hundreds of bbq places and also smoke our own meat. Service was great. Beans were a little disappointing. Ribs, chicken, brisket and sausage were all good but nothing was exceptional. Liked the hot bbq sauce the best ofthe four. The atmosphere was good too. Overall a good place if you are local but not something to make a special trip for.
Food and prices are excellent Our waiter Jeremy was excellent. The girls who were at the desk 2 were good 1 was rude when asked if we could have a booth but other than that all was excellent. I’d highly recommend. My wife isn’t a fab of Barbecue but she loved the food here . We will be back.
