My daughter was feeling like Japanese food for her birthday so our family decided to try this place in the west end. I called to make reservations just in case as I knew the place is a bit small. We arrived at 7:30 and there was only one other table taken out of about 12. It was very quiet and I cannot see any families with little kids eating here. Disappointed with my visit here. I didn't even know this restaurant existed even though I have been in the area many times. Small and cozy inside and not busy at all. I haven't seen them on food delivery apps but they should consider it to drum up more business. The price of the rolls are quite reasonable compared to other Japanese restaurants. I couldn't decide between a number of them but settled on the Caterpillar roll described as 8 pieces of vegetable tempura, avocado, and shrimp for $12.45. I've actually been going to this restaurant for years, but have never reviewed it. I find it really odd to see the low reviews here, because I've always experienced the exact opposite. We always find the food to be high quality. My husband always orders the fish, and I always have sashimi, and yet we've never had a problem. No really...we bring friends to this restaurant. As for decor...I imagine it isn't easy to decorate such a small space. Who cares? The tea is hot and tasty and the miso soup is the best I've had in the city. Service is always good too. I don't have any complaints.
We come here every year as a family, and my mom comes here often with friends. We've never been disappointed. The service is wonderful and the food very fresh. I usually have salmon sashimi, and today I also had a chop chop temaki (hand cone), as well as a bowl of rice with a side of their house made steak sauce. The scallops and salmon were very fresh, and the seaweed wrap on the cone was nice and crisp! Loved the steak sauce over rice it's not heavy and tastes wonderful. A little goes a long way. We've been coming to Miso for years now and it's our go-to for affordable and good quality Japanese food. We've always received friendly and attentive service here. I always get the Crab and Shrimp Salad to start, followed by whatever Bento Box I'm in the mood for. The freshness of the food keeps us coming back. It's our Japanese comfort food.
One of my favourite places for some good, fresh sashimi and the only place I can get compressed sushi in town. So good! I tried their new shrimp lollipops and they surprised me how good they are. They first gave me the impression of corn dogs, but they were actually quite light and had a really nice mango sauce to dip in. Totally recommend!
The server we had was so friendly and we really enjoyed the Love Boat he recommended which provided a variety of food. Came to celebrate mother's day and my mom really loved this place. The price was reasonable and the sashimi was very fresh. My hubby had beef udon and he said that was the best in town. We definitely will come back again.
We were not seated. Stated that the reservation could not be honoured because it was made too late.
