Fancying some South East Asian food, we ducked into Mr. Soy Boy on Wednesday 26th July 2017 and picked up a couple of takeaways. The owner and chef, Ferdi, was most welcoming and very chatty. They make a nice fried rice, but apart from that I don't think I will be back. Also tried the Family Platter and found this served three adults perfectly, however the four roast meats were bland and uninspiring. The sauces, vegetables and steamed rice were more enjoyable. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about the service or price, as the staff are very considerate and welcoming, and the prices seem somewhat reasonable considering the quality local ingredients. This was a good find for my family. It has been a long while since I have had the pleasure of eating a quality Asian meal in the Cairns area. We stopped in and had entrees and mains for our meal. My son the fuss pot enjoyed the dim sims and we really enjoy our serve of spring rolls. For the mains we had the Mareeba crispy skin pork belly and I had the special hor fun. I enjoyed my meal. The seafood and sauce were really tasty. I was initially put off the name soy boy, was a mental thing on my part. I'm so glad I didn't judge a restaurant by it's name and not give them a go. One word for the food: exquisite One word for portions: generous One word for presentation: gorgeous Three words to seal the deal: value for money. Thought I would order some takeaway as had heard good reports. Was very disappointed with the "trio of roast meats" which promised crispy pork belly, roast duck and chicken. The serving pieces of the pork and duck were meagre. The duck meat was non existent. Our container contained 5 pieces of duck bones with only tiny shreds of dry over cooked meat. The pork serving was just as pitiful. The chicken, dry. All this for $26.
My partner and I, who are originally from China but now living in Brisbane, recently dined at Mr Soy Boy in Cairns. We have to say, it is hands down the best restaurant we've tried in the area. The Asian cuisine is authentic and the customer service is excellent. If you're looking for something different and delicious, this is a must-try. We now have a reason to come back to Cairns, and that reason is Mr Soy Boy.
With all of the TripAdvisor reviews, I was expected near perfection and the quality of food produced did not disappoint. The flavours between a mild chicken curry to the spicy pad Thai was really interesting and enjoyable. Really impressed with female staff, friendly, attentive and always smiling. Even though it was a Tuesday night, it was three quarters full. Thanks for the flavours.
Absolutely fantastic. The food is incredibly authentic, just like eating in Asia. The casual atmosphere and friendly service make you feel right at home, and the prices are reasonable considering the high quality and attention to detail. This is a restaurant that even chefs would love to dine at. The food is excellent!

I never leave this restaurant disappointed. The menu is amazing with a great selection of vegan options alongside the regular menu. The flavors are incredible and I keep coming back for more. The Szechuan potatoes and vegan Singaporean noodles are especially delicious. Once you try it, you'll be coming back for more!
