A confusing experience at a mismanaged restaurant I called to make a reservation for dinner for 4 to go eat with friends out of town and was told it is first come first serve we didn’t need a reservation. Upon arriving, we were told that it would be a 30 minute wait for a dinner table, while we were looking at 4-5 empty dining tables (they don’t take reservations . We decided to go wait in the bar and sat at a high top, ordering drinks and ended up ordering food too because it would be much faster than waiting for one of these empty dining room tables. Nellie's in Branford is a very nice spot that strikes a perfect balance between casual and sophisticated. It’s an excellent choice for a laid-back lunch or a more refined dinner. The location is fantastic, offering both indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful waterfront views. I found the prices very reasonable; I was pleasantly surprised as I expected it to be more expensive. The staff, mostly young, are friendly and attentive, adding to the pleasant dining experience. We stayed nearby from out of town and went 2 nights for dinner because we loved it so much! The first night we sat inside and the atmosphere was so nice, clean and cozy feeling! The waitress was super nice and the food was amazing. We had the bootleg burger and the chicken mediterranean pasta dish which were both amazing, highly recommend either of those! The next night we sat outside which is right on the dock with really nice views. Our waiter was also very nice and the food was good but their dessert limoncello mascarpone cake was amazing! The food is excellent but every time I’ve been here the service is awful. Most recently, We arrived at 430pm to no crowd yet it took our server almost 20 minutes to come ask for a drink order. Then I never say her again until well into our meal (that had been delivered by runners) I had to ask another server to go get her. Our table had needed two drink refills at that point but she was MIA. The same thing happened after we finished and were ready to pay. I saw other tables have the same experience. Again, this is not the first time this has happened.
