So despite a booking for 1pm given with deposits and a pre order for a festive menu We arrived early for drinks and told that the booking was for 11.30 ? by Adrian and that he had bought staff in early to cater for us we explained it was definitely a 1pm meal we had asked for. By 1.20 starters arrived but orders were awry and no toasted bread with the terrine (which was gorgeous) It was 2pm before the mains arrived but two customers were then informed their meals had been dropped (accidents can happen) however when their Salmon meals arrived 20 minutes later it was a quite underwhelming meal served. This place is amazing for a sunny day. We wanted a pub lunch, and that's what we got. Didn't look like much from the outside but go around the back, and there's plenty of places to sit. The place is clean, the staff are friendly. We ordered sharing nachos to start with, followed by chicken and bacon burger and hunters chicken (see photo's attached). Portion sizes and the quality of food were great. Food came out pretty quickly, and the service was great as it was busy as well. The dessert was a ok, only thing that let it down was the fudge cake itself was a little over done and dry on the edges but there was plenty of cream and chocolate sauce to sort that out. Visited last night. 3 of us had steak all of which were cooked perfectly. One rare one medium one well done. It's a shame there is no longer table service to order food. But with only 3 tables indoors occupied on a Saturday night maybe staff has been reduced. But food was delicious so can't give less than 5 stars. Desserts also scrumpy even though the millionaire puddle didn't have a puddle. Really like the interior design of the pub. With it being so quiet I really hope this place will keep going. We will definitely return.
Came back the very next day for a meal. Staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful So the review for the food Starting with the positive Food was delicious and good value for money. Every plate was enjoyed and finished and will definitely come back again Now for the negative Nothing. Everything was perfect Will definitely be the 1st place we will consider the next time we are wanting to go for a meal out

The food was great value, and tasted great; service was impeccable from everyone from start to finish. The young man, I believe Hayden, who served us ensured we had a great experience throughout with efficient service despite how busy the restaurant was. He showed us how to download a website to receive some free drinks.
I have been going to this pub for over 30 years. Myself and 5 friends went for a festive 2 course meal, I had salmon and it was the best meal that I have ever had there, simple but perfect. The service was excellent too. I enjoyed it so much that I have booked to go back this week
We went to the Old Halfway House for Christmas dinner this year, the first time that we have done this, and we are converts. The pub made it such a great experience, the staff were brilliant, the atmosphere was lovely and the food was delicious.
Sunday lunch for an 85th birthday, we were not booked in and they accommodated us perfectly!! Hunters chicken was fantastic, as was the beef, the portion of salmon was underwhelming in size. Staff are friendly and helpful.
