Taste : 4.4/5 Environment: 4.4/5 Service：4.3/5 Ah, Otoro, the famous Japanese restaurant operated by a Taiwanese owner. If you're planning to visit on the weekend, be prepared to wait 30-50 minutes to be seated because they don't accept reservations. But hey, good things come to those who wait, right? And it's totally worth it because they really care about the quality of their food. Plus, they offer seasonal lunch sets with the freshest ingredients. So, if you're willing to exercise a little patience for some top-notch Japanese cuisine, Otoro is the place to be! Parking: Parking lot in the basement too
Really excellent traditional sushi and sashimi. Superb chutoro and ootoro. We had the second tier omakase and struggled to finish the last course. Many courses included excellent uni. Even if it was from Santa Barbara, it was equivalent in taste and texture to Hokkaido uni. Service was immediate and attentive. Many staff were from Indonesia and they provided superlative service. They were friendly, very knowledgeable about their dishes and very efficient. Sakes although few were spread over a good range of prices and paired well with the food. Will happily return when I'm next in town.
This sushi restaurant offers really fresh cuts of fish; however, we have a problem with the making and construction of the sushi. They're basically thick cuts of fish placed haphazardly on a ball of rice. Every piece fell apart the instant you picked them up with chopsticks. Given the premium price this restaurant charges, I think we expect a more refined sushi-making technique, and the amateurish handling of the sushi undermines the fresh quality of the fish.
I was so surprised to dine here after living in the area for 20+ years! I had always driven by but it was always bustling so I would avoid it but DAMN! The sushi here is outstanding and couldn't have asked for a better meal. Service is on point and they have omakase too. This place is my new go-to for fine Japanese now. Ootoro FTW, yo!!! We have never dined there but I've gotten to go twice now. To be honest I expected so much more because of the ratings but the sushi is not as fresh as I thought. It's just ok to me. The to go boxes for the sushi and hand roll sets aren't too pricy though so I guess they figure we aren't dining in so quality goes down.
