The sushi is great. And I did enjoy the house ginger salad. The employees were kind, and the environment was traditional. However, everything else was subpar. The shrimp teriyaki was overcooked, and the veggies were frozen and cooked, taking away flavor opportunities. The veggie tempura was also bland. There was no seasoning in the batter or veggies. The restaurant has a lot of potential. However, the quality of the food is lacking. For the price, I was disappointed.
We were in Louisville for a few days and wanted Japanese. Googled restaurants near me and this place came up. It was in walking distance of our hotel so decided to check it out. Upon walking in I wasn’t too sure… so glad we gave them a shot! Super friendly and even made things for us that weren’t on the menu. Everything we had was delicious. This would def be a favorite spot if we lived there.
It was a very tiny in the wall diner for Japanese. We got sushi and I only ended up finding one piece of yucky avocado in my roll. Aside from that everything tasted good, but probably was not as fresh as it could have been. The service was good, our waitress was alone and still took good care of us during our meal. It was very cramped and dim, but not entirely dirty.
The restaurant may not look great from the outside, but inside it is a legitimate restaurant. The sushi rolls were not amazing, but they were decent enough for my picky taste. They offer an interesting meal deal on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays where you can buy one roll and get a second for only $2. I recommend this place for a casual sushi meal. Book a table now
Don't pick up a Doordash order from here. I waited 1 hour for 2 rolls and never received them. When I arrived I checked in with the hostess, I was told it would be another 5/10 min. After about 25 minutes I checked again with them. After 45 minutes I asked again and they told me to cancel the order because they didn't have a ticket.
When I get there with my boyfriend, we were told to sit. This isn't our first time going either so we know the routine. I got the spicy California roll. Nothing raw at all. Get our food and the avocado looked slimy which was gross but I've never had a bad experience before. Hours later, I find out I have food poisoning. Great.
The waiter was very friendly and genuine, instead of being solely focused on money and not paying attention. He quickly informed my friend, who wasn't paying attention to the menu, about the cost of the sushi, which was very helpful for two guys on a budget who wanted to enjoy a special meal out.
Tofu Salad is a favorite item on the menu. (Sometimes with avocado sushi, but that brings the total to about $12.)Lunch there is pretty busy, not quiet, but it's also reasonably priced for downtown. Our experience on a Saturday 4pm early dinner: When we walked in, the host barely looked up. He pointed to the tables without speaking, which is not the way Japanese typically greet a guest. The Vegas roll and yum-yum roll were great. Yakisoba had a weird, sugary flavor to it.
