The Pilzbar restaurant is located opposite the station wagon; about 100m from the Penkenbahn, outside the ski school meeting place. It's self-service. Good mountain food and your usual burgers and chips. There is a mushroom bar tent that is popular for apres, but be careful about the Penkenbahn closing at 5 pm. We used this place for most days skiing in the area. Only very convenient if you want to call it the day after late lunch or just a few runs on site without trace to Penken near the closing time. In terms of food, tiroler is excellent and cheap. Late lunch means they cook it fresh; and the pager buzzes you when it is finished. We also tried Currywurst, Schnitzel and Bratwurst. Germknö...
Ate and drank in here a few times whilst skiing in Mayrhofen. As with most cafes on the slopes seating is always at a premium but the views and cold beer make up for this. Food is reasonably priced and not the worst I've had and the music they blare out is some of the finest Euro pop I've heard in ages. Worth a stop for a drink en route back to your hotel.
They serve for lunch, but it is limited to salad, pasta, pizza or burgers. If you are a vegetarian, you can either have a salad (like hotel salad bar), pasta arabiatta or chips. There are no proper veggie meals. The food is average, but hot.
Great location, right next to the ski school, which is very practical when we waited for our little ones! The interior is more of a loud music bar, outside has incredible views of the mountains from the back.
