the hotel mercure duisburg is connected to an unusual shopping center/sport complex. in the complex is a tiny small Italian caffe with 4 small tables and a few outside. the hotel restaurant was closed over christmas, and it found this cozy little place perfect. he had his doubts. he was wrong. we had both pasta, they, a beautiful dish with fresh tagliatelle with sparingly pointed, tomato pieces and small garnels. he had Bolognese sauce on his. both were well prepared, tasty and the price-performance ratio was exceptional. the good: the preparation was obviously proud. the bad: tiny tables? 4 tight friends fit. the strange: who would already look for good Italian food in a shopping mall fitne...
We went back to Duisburg for Christmas market, and this time, suspecting that the hotel kitchen would be closed, we planned to eat at Pizzeria Alcara. Sure enough, the kitchen was closed, and we were able to walk straight to Pizzeria Alcara for a very...nice meal. Hot, fresh, good quality ingredients and a simply amazing variety of pasta and pizza toppings come out of a very well organized kitchen. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we planned on eating there a second time during our trip, but simply ran out of time. If you're a couple on a budget, or a young travelers, you can't go wrong here. Good pizza and pasta. Ideal for lunch. Bite tight inside, but you can also sit outside in the passage. Very friendly staff.
