I made a reservation at the Plough and Sail in Paglesham East End for my birthday lunch today. The pub has a charming appearance and a history dating back over 300 years. We all enjoyed our starters, including fried halloumi, scallops, and whitebait. Unfortunately, my wife found her liver and bacon main dish to be virtually inedible, with the lamb's liver and bacon being extremely tough. The mashed potatoes seemed old and poorly mashed. My steak and kidney pie lacked solid steak chunks and kidney, and the mashed potatoes were also disappointing. However, the desserts, including honeycomb and banana ice cream and pavlova, were enjoyable. We informed the waitress of our dissatisfaction with th...

Was there for daughters birthday. Booked 2 weeks in advance. Our table was given to another party although our name and phone number was on the paper the lady was holding, she said it was the other party's number and name then proceeded to ask us to call the number to prove it. We waited for another table to become available and ordered our Sunday dinner to be told they had sold out. We then ordered off the menu. Fish and chips had no taste, lamb chops were dry and overcooked, mashed potatoes were lumpy and tasteless. Absolutely not impressed. Will not be going back..
Our U3A walking group arrived this morning to start a walk at 10 o'clock, after pre-booking a table for lunch three days ago. The landlord rudely shouted at us to move our cars, claiming they were reserved for other customers. Despite explaining that we had a reservation, he insisted there was no record of it and refused to accommodate us. We were disappointed by the poor customer service and did not have the opportunity to try the food. However, we were warmly welcomed at a lovely pub in Rochford 5 miles away.

I went to this restaurant for a birthday lunch based on a friend's recommendation and I was not let down. Despite being a bit isolated with only a few houses around, it was quite busy for a Thursday. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious - we both had the steak and stilton pie with dessert. It was good value for money. I will definitely return again in the future.
A pub/restaurant, in the middleofnowhere, on a Tuesday lunchtime at the tail end of September, and the place is really busy, which tells you something about the place. Three of us, opted for Sea Bass, Tuna Steak, and a Lamb Chop, all from the specials board, and all absolutely delicious and well worth the trip out.
We won a special dinner night at the Plough and Sail during the annual shoot which raises money for charity. The evening was absolutely superb. The staff were very attentive and the food was amazing. We are never disappointed when we go here, will always recommend.
Disappointed with food. Chicken Kiev was dry with no garlic butter inside, came with salad and chips. Salad just lettuce and cucumber and chips looked undercooked and not very hot. Liver and bacon was better but nothing special. Shame as food used to be excellent Book a table now
Had to share this, just had the best fish and chips I've ever had in a pub. The crispiest batter on the planet! Massive piece of cod, cooked perfectly and good big portion of chips. I've been going to the plough for a while now and never had a bad meal, love it!
Such a shame but the food has really gone downhill. This used to be our regular go to place but I'm not sure it will be any more. Has there been a change of kitchen staff?
