Don't be swayed by the positive reviews—my experience here was far from satisfactory. I placed an order through Caviar and, while I didn't order any raw fish, my "bowl" arrived in a soggy paper box with an unpleasant, fishy odor. After taking just one bite, I instantly spit it out; something in the bowl was definitely spoiled. I'm truly shocked that this restaurant has such a high rating while serving food in this condition. I'm really disappointed and wish I had never ordered from them. If you have a favorite local poke place, stick to it and don't make the mistake of trying this one! I've learned my lesson and will never order from here again.
Pokay is a cute restaurant located in the heart of downtown Jersey City. I ended up picking up my poke bowl to go and it was amazing! There is a large variety of toppings to choose from. Considering I picked this up 45 min before closing the fish still tasted nice and fresh. The interior is also so cute! Price wise this was an affordable option as it was under 20 dollars for a very filling dinner.
The staff here are really friendly, but the quality has declined compared to what it used to be. The fish is usually quite fresh, but some of the ingredients aren't as top-notch as they once were. Unfortunately, the rice is often stale, which is disappointing. While I still consider it the best poke in Jersey City, there are now better options available.
They really enjoy the simple yet delicious food here. The seaweed tobacco dish is unique and refreshing to try. The sauce is excellent—not overly salty or spicy. Each order comes with two tacos, which is a good portion if you plan to order a little extra for a snack or dessert. Book a table now
This was the worst food I've ever ordered through DoorDash. The rice was hard and cold, and both the salmon and tuna lacked flavor and were unappetizing. Save your money and choose a different restaurant—clearly, these folks don't put any effort into their food.
I remember visiting Pokay when they first opened, and I keep returning after long breaks, always finding it consistently amazing! I've tried other poke places, but this one is my favorite.
