Honey Hi does a delightful brunch if you have $70 to spare for two people. Definite sticker shock here, even for a freshly gentrified Echo Park, but I have to admit that everything was pretty pitch perfect. There 's a certain flavor/feeling when eating very local, or at least ingredients that have been off the vine/bush/free very shortly prior to being put on your plate, and Honey Hi has this flavor/feeling down. My mom 's breakfast bowl came with a salad that was full of herby, spicy, all-different-tasting greens, and while the hash wasn 't exactly crispy, it didn 't end up mattering because the flavor combination was so spot on with the bright greens and the savory hash and the smattering...
That's why I decided to bring my sister here instead and told her to trust me. The food here is incredible; my go-to dish is the greens and beans. I order it every single time and have never changed my mind about it. It tastes much better than you might expect from beans, and the kale complements it perfectly. I always substitute the egg for avocado. Each ingredient balances the others beautifully. I would have never thought to order that initially, but I love letting the servers choose my meal for me, and that was the recommendation I got the first time I visited a few months ago. If you're looking for healthy but tasty bowls and smoothies at steep prices, Honey Hi is for you. The prices are much higher than I think they should be but I'm also not in the restaurant biz and I'm sure rent is super expensive. That being said, I love their smoothies, especially the açaí thing and marriage milkshake. My favorite bowls are the miso bowl and breakfast bowl. The flavors just go really well together. I've tried modifying them (for example, added sweet potato hash to the miso bowl, got extra hash in the breakfast bowl, and added salad into the miso bowl, etc. but the modifications usually detract from the dish and I find myself wanting the bowls as originally intended. I like the little terrace there and the staff always been absolutely lovely and helpful. Especially when they helped me with finding something suitable for my diet. The breakfast bowl was good, I wasn’t a fan of the salad coming with it which is the same as the side salad and came without any dressing. Also the bacon is pre made and served cold, which takes away the magic of breakfast in my opinion. The sausages (beef and lamb) were not my favorite I almost broke a tooth on some nerve or piece of bone.. and I love sausages usually like that since I’m a huge merguez lover, and half Tunisian…! I ordered the breakfast bowl, and while it was presented nicely, it unfortunately lacked flavor. The menu should have labeled it as a salad bowl instead of a breakfast option. I felt that one egg wasn't sufficient, and the sweet potatoes were cold, which was disappointing. Because of these issues, I can only give it two stars. Additionally, there are no restrooms available for customers.
Absolute gluten-free heaven. If I lived in LA, I’d be here every weekend. Everything we tried was delicious. Prices were a bit high, but I expect that of LA and high quality, health ingredients.Food: 5/5
