We ate here the 3rd week in August during a 2-day stay in Marlenheim. The previous week was the village summer fete/extravaganza and it seemed like most of the occupants had headed straight off on holiday afterwards as many of the restaurants and shops were...closed. Au Tonneau was the only place we could find that was open on Weds 19th August. Not surprisingly they were busy that evening and service was slow as a result but was friendly. We started with a charcuterie/salad selection which seemed an inspired choice in hindsight. There seem to be a large range of sausages made in Alsace and we were served a very tasty selection. For main course, we were keen to try a tart flambée an Alsatian...

in the last twenty years we have visited au toneau. Previously, it was quite fritted, real asacic village will grow up with good eating, and always full of people. during our visit on Sunday evening there were only two tables of real dinner...guests, the rest of the people were related, family members and good friends of the patron, and they got all attention. we were just ignored. we came to have an asacian speciality, baked pots and munster cheese. the court was good, but that was all we had. we hardly speak French, that may explain. but they did not try to resist or communicate. the evening meal was worse than what we had in au tonneau, and one of the worst in all elssass.

a charming French restaurant. friendly hostess, a small cozy bar and a lot of directed. we ate brain and wild boar accompanied by a good local pinot noir. excellent quality. a reservation, especially during the weekend, is advisable. a parking space is easy to find. I think it has a better environment than the more classic restaurants in the city. for people who are interested: it is good worth 4 money.
