My family and I drove back from Yverdon to Bern and stopped for lunch in the impressive medieval town of Avenches. After a short walk around the old city of Geisterstadt quietly on a Sunday, we passed on the Arcades restaurant with its beautiful outdoor terrace down to the main road. I have a quick check of the interior and it looked good, but not so charming. Avanches is proud of his belief as an old city, with its huge amphitheater, the remains of Roman baths and fortified walls. A winter day, with a strong wind blowing over this city on a hill. The 'Les Arcades' restaurant, on the main street (Rue Centrale), presents itself as a modest institution. Inside you will discover a family atmosphere and windows overlooking the surrounding hills. For lunch we ordered the fish that came with beautifully sawed vegetables and a paste, whose rich taste made clear that it had been carefully made from very fresh products. We saw in the menu that they have different fish from the area. We ordered two, and both were nicely cooked. We love fish and they were by far the best fish dishes we have eaten in Switzerland over the past 7 years. Wine selection is right, with really nice bottles of the zone.
Small local bistro ,3 menu for lunch time from 18 to 21 frs , plain and simple but good ,pleasant staff, at the back of the bistro there is a nice corner for a bit of quiet, very busy place.
