OK--this was a definite highlight for us on our weekend on Salt Spring. For appetizers, we knocked the ball out of the park with the crab cakes and the warm seafood salad (scallop and prawn). Then, one of us had the salmon special--great dill sauce--and the other had the venison. Medium rare, with such a tasty lingenberry sauce. Our wine was a pinot gris from the local island winery Garry Oaks--well-rounded, with a hint of sweetness. Nobody around us was ordering dessert--barbarians! We went for the crême brulée with the hint of cardamom--such a great texture. As well, an order of their special dessert was snapped up, a layered cake with chocolate mousse and crême anglaise. Went to Piccolo as recommended by our hosts at the Wetherby a stunning b&b . We were absolutely thrilled with the great service and awesome meal ! Everything was done correctly in terms of service ie: table setting, timing of courses and attention to the table. The starter scallops prawns were cooked perfectly. The Venison is the best that I have ever had and will call me back ! The Lingonberry sauce also will stay with me forever. The dessert was beautiful little crepes again with a different Lingonberry sauce and homemade ice cream that was a perfect end to a scrumptious meal. Thank you Piccolo
The location a heritage house is elegant, but the star is the food. The chef, we were told, came from Nordic culture, and fittingly, Baltic herring and venison are on the menu. But the sable fish is pretty spectacular too. And a good wine list, plus efficient and friendly service. Cannot wait to try other items on the menu!
Well, let just start with the fact that you eat at the table covered with tablecloth. Food is fabulous and interesting. Not cheap but well priced and with menu satisfying different taste and providing gluten free options as well, without affecting dish quality. Highly recommended, must book in advance as it is very busy.
