Checking out spots for lunch in central G, struck conversation with young (female) employee about the food and drink situation, having visited a few years ago for drinks and sat in garden. Variety of food options and drink, love stouts, and remembering it was a calm and cosy pub, which I love, what with me being a youngish, old man. Sat at table 14, the perfect seat, but other areas really nice too.Food, Catch of Day was ample and well cooked, 1700 calories no less. Stout was as is, they offer others, bottled imperial stouts etc. To get full experience had sticky toffee pud, which was ample and served with ice cream. Overall, enjoyed my lunch, left as full as can be. Wont be eating today. If...

My wife and I were looking for an early evening meal prior to attending a talk at nearby Blackfriars and walking along Southgate we very quickly spotted Robert Raikes House. Interestingly a man sitting outside enjoying a beer said how good the meals were and so we went in and browsed the menu. We stopped the prices were pretty good, the choice of meals amazing and so we embarked upon a really nice supper. Service was friendly, efficient, quick the food was hand cooked and generously portioned. (My ham, egg, peas and fries might sound boringly standard but it tasted delicious and yes, it proved why it is one of my favourites when out! So I thoroughly recommend the pub for a meal and given its...

The pub is located in a beautiful historical building with a standard menu of good quality food. Dogs are allowed inside as long as they are well-behaved and on a leash. The bar staff informed us that the building was abandoned until 2006, when a £4.5 million renovation began. The renovation is still ongoing, but you wouldn't know it from the busy atmosphere in the many small rooms that resemble a luxurious hotel.

My friend and I went on a day trip from Bath to Gloucester and were surprised by the state of the city. However, we had lunch at this place and were very pleased. The building was beautiful with old beams from ships in the 1500s. We had a typical pub lunch (Scampi and chips) which was fantastic and affordable. The Landlord was very friendly and the bathrooms were extremely clean. Book a table now

This restaurant is a fantastic spot to grab a drink, it exudes a charming old-world atmosphere. The owner was extremely welcoming and had a wide selection of unique beers, the organic wheat beer was particularly impressive. We ended up visiting twice over the weekend, and highly recommend it.

What a find. We just love this cosy pub in the heart of Gloucester, friendly and welcoming couple Tracey Jerry Great food freshly prepared, Loved the battered cod and great Yorkshire beers. He welcome as warm as the three log fires burning. Can’t wait for a return visit Ian and Kath from Ross

We had a great time here. The staff and regulars were really friendly and welcoming. The building is beautiful with a lovely cosy fire for cold days and nights and a large beer garden the warmer ones. Would highly recommend Robert Raikes House.

Some wonderful interesting choice of Ales, Portes etc. Food is lovely and a very good menu. The Hunters Chicken is massive and very tasty. Great outside area and cosy secluded sections to sit inside. Very cosmopolitan and homely feel. Book a table now

Popped in for a drink only. Deceptive in its size, with a range of rooms inside , at least 1 with an open fire. Like many places, a lack of staff hampers full operation. But a nice atmosphere, cosy.
