I visited Roy's in Linden, and I have to say the food is fantastic! The oxtails and stewed chicken were delicious, and the macaroni and cheese and candied yams were just delightful. Surprisingly, the potato salad—something I usually don't enjoy—was very tasty. The fried chicken wings were incredibly good, and the desserts—peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, and carrot cake—were simply amazing! The restaurant may be small, but it's always kept clean, and I noticed a steady flow of customers. I went there one evening close to closing time, and they only had a small amount of oxtails left, which says a lot about how popular the place is.

I ordered the fried whiting fish, which was quite bland and lacked flavor, along with the baked mac and cheese, which was fairly decent. As I was leaving the restaurant, someone locked the door, preventing me from exiting. At first, I thought the door was stuck until I heard a click at the top of it. I'm not sure why they did that or why it took so long to unlock the door. I won’t be coming back to this restaurant.
I really enjoy the catfish at this restaurant. It was perfectly crispy, hot, and fresh. I appreciated that they took the extra step of poking holes in the aluminum foil to keep it from getting soggy. I hope they continue this in the future. The only downside was that the shrimp was a bit over-fried for my taste. It did come with plenty of hot sauce and tartar sauce on the side.
I recently visited Roy's on Springfield Avenue in Irvington. I ordered the fried Whiting but was disappointed to discover it was overcooked, and the shrimp was tough, especially for the $18 price tag. The music, while old and enjoyable, was played so loudly that we had to shout to place our orders. Overall, I was not impressed with my experience and do not intend to return.

I spent $80 at this restaurant on September 30, 2022, on food, and I also purchased banana pudding, cake, and pumpkin pie. When I began to enjoy my delicious banana pudding, I was shocked to find something unpleasant in it. Upon closer examination, I discovered mold in the pudding. Please make sure to check the quality of your food before serving it to customers.
I ordered the whiting fish lunch special today.. It was horrible they sold me fish skin..They cut one piece of fish skin in half took my $9 and served it to me. I can’t believe that a “business” would serve something like that!!..This was my firstand last time going to that place.. Please don’t go here they take no pride in what they are serving customers!
Haven't been to Roy's since they remodeled. As I have always experienced, the fish was outstanding(not greasy) the Lemon Cake is still delicious. Not to crazy about the hush puppies. I think that they may have changed the recipe.
I love Roy's, especially their shrimp. Their food always arrives hot, delicious and well packed. The delivery drivers are polite and it's a great job all around.
