My vegetable vindaloo was phenomenal. Rather spicy, but also flavorful. I felt so much warmth and rejuvenation in every bite. It was unbelievable. It felt like bliss in food form. I didn’t miss the chicken whatsoever, as the vegetables did the job just perfectly. The rice was also warm and spicy. The food also looked beautiful. The vindaloo had a boiling red color that perfectly matched the exhilarating heat. I was doubtful about how good vegetarian Indian food would be, but Samudra didn’t just exceed my expectations, no, Samudra eclipsed all of my preconceptions about what vegetarian food could be. Samudra proved to me that meat’s importance may be overstated, at least from a culinary stand...

I’ve had so many bad experiences with this restaurant, its my own fault for giving them chances over and over. The first incident was a couple years ago; I ordered 2 dosas to be delivered and they only provided enough sambhar and coconut chutney for 1 dosa. Each dosa is supposed to come with its OWN sambhar and chutney. The second incident with this restaurant was when I ordered pav bhaji for pickup. They asked me what level of spice to put. I said medium. When I got my order, it was like I just bit into a ghost pepper. I couldn’t taste a thing. Only spice. I went back to rectify the issue but they refused to accept that they gave me an inedible dish. In the same visit, I asked to use the ba...
Came here for the first time and had a blast experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They even warned me about street parking. I'm a new Yorker but to this local. I thought the parking was usually free after 7pm, however, the street that I parked was actually free after 10pm. I avoided getting a ticket thanks to the staff. The food was the bomb! Love everything I ordered. That warm gulab jamun and ice cream for the dessert brought me a fully pleased closure.
My favorite Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. I've been here more than 15 times and I'm still amazed by how good it is. Plenty of vegan options, too. Edit: i still think the food is great but, unfortunately, the service is not. After pointing out that we've been waiting for our food much longer than people who came after us and ordered similar dishes, we were told it's our fault because we asked if we could sit outside. Come on! Book a table now
I spent my eighteenth birthday here at honestly it was one of the best birthdays i ever had. The staff made me feel right at home especially Kat. She took such good care of us especially as a big group. Sanah personally came out to us and greeted us which was so kind of . She made sure all our food was good along with our amazing waitresses. Great experience!
I had a delightful experience here ordering take out. Delicious food and great service. Jack the owner is attentive to his restaurant and very friendly. While waiting he offered me on the house a delicious rice pudding. I can’t wait to come back and experience more tasty food at Samudra!
Had lunch here with a friend who had spent a year in India. I left the ordering to her. Everything, and I mean everything was delicious and freshly made. The owner and staff defined hospitable. Can't wait to go back.
Samudra (which means sea or ocean) is a great option for South Indian food. It is unassuming with friendly staff and good food. The food came out fresh and fast. Will definitely be returning. Book a table now
Thali was tasty except the rasam . Service was okay expected little attention towards customers . Quantity is less for thali and refills are also not free of cost.
The poori bhaji at Samudra is TO DIE FOR. They have a wonderful tomato chutney and their idli is delicious. Highly recommend!
