I ate yesterday in san chez bistro (caffe) and was very disappointed. it seems to me inevitable that a restaurant of this kaliber seems confused what vegan means. first they need to request a special vegan / vegetarian menu. this special menu must be a reprint of some of the recipes from their main menu, because almost all recipes have meat and eggs in them with the opportunity to exchange these ingredients for dinge like mushrooms and their mysterious non- vegan eierersatz. there were about vegan lunches that were not salads. my man ordered a falafel type sandwich and that seemed good to go, it even came with some delicious (if very fat) kartoffels. one of the other vegan sandwiches had the...
here is the deal as soon as they have to sit they tell the server they are vegan and they bring them a special vegan menu. it is great that they offer a vegan menu. the problem is, unless they know to ask, they will never know they have it. that really fucks me. it would be wonderful if they could put a small note or asterick on the bottom of the regular menu that lets customers know that there is a vegan menu on request or something. even better, list the vegan elements on the main menu and set them a green leaf or asterick next to the elements that can be made vegan. it's not just vegans who eat vegans. ironically, after eating, I found out about the secret vegan menu. they have menus online and in the restaurant for many different preferences / allergies such as gluten-free, vegan, soy free, baumnuss free, etc. they offer tapas that are smaller plates. when we go, we order some of them and share. we also eat the gluten-free bread, which is one of the best I tasted. I find their server very knowledgeable if they need to avoid an act. the price is a bit high for me, but we use it as a special occasion.
What a fantastic meal we had! They were able to not only vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free, the taste was incredible. Excellent service from Derek, who knew the menu very well. It's a little loud, but we sat upstairs from the chaos down. The taste of the artichokes was particularly pleasing (here pictured).
