We do not have Japanese food often but our lunch today at San Kai was appetising and satisfying. The menu is attractive and we selected the pork dumplings to start - an old favourite and enjoyable. Our main meals were the combination tempura , which was a little greasy, and the Chicken Teriyaki, that had delightful flavours. The rice was not to our liking and too sticky for us.The beverage list was limited but there were good choices of soft drinks and beers, which was all we wanted. The service needed asking on a couple of occasions, but our meals arrived in a timely manner. The wait staff did not seem happy in the service! This venue is OK for a light lunch and the servings were filling.

A little bit westernised Japanese but tasty and not bad. I had " Unadon " which is very tender eel on the rice and yummy sweet soy sauce.I love it! Also " Agedashi Tofu " which fried tofu is in the broth, one of my favourite Japanese food. Both are a little bit sweeter and stronger flavour than traditional Japanese ones but suited for western tasteMy friend had " Bento Deluxe " which including 'Tempura prawn and vegetable', Grilled salmon', Assorted sushi', 'Assorted sashimi' and 'Beef steak'.It looks gorgeous! Very busy at lunch time on Saturday. Nice location to have a casual lunch.
The restaurant part of San Kai serves delicious, fresh Japanese Cuisine. Just as good is the takeaway section which, in my opinion, serves up some of the most delicious sushi in Brisbane. The rolls are always fresh, plump with ingredients, and well priced. More, they are willing to make up rolls to accomodate dietary requirements. A great dinner or lunch option for the kids when we visit Southbank.
I love Japanese food and was pleased to find San Kai on a recent trip to Brisbane. My Japanese friend and I selected a Deluxe option which was like a banquet for 2. It had all you can ever want in a meal. Sushi, sashimi, tempura, rice, steak, seaweed, and much more finished off with a superb Green Tea Ice Cream. Cant recommend San kai anymore - Just brilliant. Looking forward to my next visit. Book a table now
We have been to San Kai quite a lot but our lunch with friends on Sunday was outstanding! I think the menu may have changed - The food (we had 2 different types of banquet meals) was fabulous, tasty and well prepared and presented and exactly the right amount. Wagieu beef out of this world and the sashimi to die for. Staff were attentive and helpful. Well done San Kai (again)
The service was good and our dietary recoriments were meet by the restuarent and staff were happy to change dishes. I would recommend the janpanese lemonade for a sweet and delicote drink and the platters as they provided the cilent with many japanese dishes which show you around japan.
We had a party of 9 and they were able to seat us fairly quickly so they won the food lottery that night. Surprisingly the food was good and the portions were generous. Everyone was very happy and it was not that expensive (all things considered).
Lovely restaurant with some beautiful food. The waitstaff were helpful and accommodating. Fresh authentic flavour off the road and in a cool part of the city. Would very much recommend. Mid range prices for the area. Book a table now
Everything we considered looked amazing BUT did not prepare us for how delicious everything actually was. From Saki on rocks to scallops. Eel to seafood upon. Just amazing.Service was excellent.

"The pasta at this restaurant is fantastic, the service is good, but the prices are a bit on the higher side. The gnocchi was particularly delicious, but there are other more satisfying options available for the same price."
