This is not a typical tourist spot where tourist can easily access to, we came down from train at a small town named Oestrich-Winkel and we tried to get taxi to access to Schloss Vollrads wine yard but to our disappointment, there're no taxi available that time. We walked to Hotel Ruthmann and so grateful with them since they offered to call for a taxi that can ferry six of us.It's a 15 minutes drive from Hotel Ruthmann to Schloss Vollrads. My husband and I had our wedding celebration at Schloss Vollrads - first garden reception and then dinner at Gutsrestaurant. Everything about the location is perfect - old but well maintained buildings, surrounded by stunning vineyards and a marvelous garden with a bowling Allee for the 18th century. We visited on a Sunday, a couple weeks post-harvest, so the grounds were very quiet and felt almost deserted. But on a sunny day like ours, we had a lovely time walking the grounds and taking pictures amongst the vineyards. I would just suggest more info either online or on the grounds about the history of the operation. I had to ask the employee in the tasting room a lot of questions, and even he didn't know a lot about the history and operations. A tour would have been cool, but we were told these have to be requested and arranged far in advance. Kind of odd for a winery of this size.

After a hike through the forest above the Rhine, what a pleasure it was to eat outdoors in the beautiful setting of Schloss Vollrads. The food was first class and beautifully presented. The wine was perfect too. It is a shame the restaurant no longer does the small-portion tasting menu that it did in the past. One can have a full menu or a la carte. However service, food and wine couldn't be faulted. The waiter spoke perfect English.
We went on a wine tasting tour at Schloss Vollrads. The wine was excellent, and the history was fascinating (although quite a sad one, as the winery was run by the same family for 26 generations, until the last owner/operator died by suicide, and his child did not want to continue with the tradition of running the place). Very worth the visit, the views are stunning, grounds spectacular, and wines very tasty.
We had a very nice visit to the wine tasting room. The manager was very helpful in his knowledge and guidance on wines we might like. His guidance was spot on. We bought a few cases on his recommendations. The grounds are beautiful to stroll even in the cool of the fall. A definite must visit for any in pursuit of beautiful wine.
Don' miss it although you will not be able to enjoy spectacular views on the river Rhine. But most probably one of the most beautiful ensembles of a castle with parts from various periods. And enjoy a nice glass of wine, too

Schloss Vollrads is one of the key spots in the Rheingau valley which you should see. Very nice location with lot of things to see. Also a great destiniation for hiking tours.
Our guide was great! Even at 10am! Very interesting. Stopped here on our Uniworld cruise and would recommend.
