Having worked in NYC, I really appreciate the chicken over rice concept that Shah's Halal brought to Jersey. Here’s my take and the reasons behind my rating:
1. Falafel inconsistency: I've ordered falafel over rice several times, and the quality varies. The first time was good, but on the next two or three visits, the falafel was hard, almost like it had just come out of the freezer.
2. Excessive rice to minimize meat: They load the bowl with a lot of rice, which seems like a way to reduce the amount of chicken given.
3. The chicken quality has been consistently good.
4. They are very stingy with the black beans for some reason—no idea why.

The staff member, who was wearing a mask as shown in the picture, took my food away and started to disrespect me, stating I wouldn't be served that night. I had driven all the way from New York for this meal. He began yelling and cursing at me when I asked for my food back and requested his name, which he refused to give, instead responding with a mocking response.
When I suggested having someone else assist me, he arrogantly wagered, “I can bet you $100 you won’t be served tonight. Get out of here.” His behavior was humiliating, especially in front of other customers. Is this really how a restaurant should treat its patrons?

I can't thank Zac and the team enough for making our evening so special. All our guests loved the food and atmosphere—I hope they visit Shah's Halal soon. The food is fantastic, and the people are wonderful. Whether dining in or ordering takeout for 15 people, Shah's Halal in North Brunswick never disappoints. They serve generous portions of rice, chicken, lamb, and sauces. The salad is always freshly prepared. This is truly the best fresh halal food in the area. The staff is incredibly friendly and courteous—they even helped me load the trays into the car.
I've had the best halal food of my life at Shah's Halal! The fresh ingredients and the flavorful, juicy chicken platter with a touch of lamb were absolutely incredible. Be sure to add extra white sauce and hot sauce for the perfect taste! Huge thanks to Zack for his exceptionally fast service, professionalism, and friendliness. You all deserve 50 stars, not just 5. I had the fish platter with white sauce a little red sauce. It was very tasty and filling. The fish was made to order and very fresh. I also had a side of fries. The employee who took care of me was very courteous and attentive. I was visiting the areafrom NY and I?ve only ever been to Shah?s in Connecticut. I enjoyed my experience at this Jersey location. It was clean andcomfortable to dine in. I highly recommend them.

Tried shahs for first time and I was actually impressed with the taste of the food. And not that expensive too. Had a mix of chicken and lamb and full of proteins and rice . Chicken was nice and spicy . Their spicy sauce is awesome . We bought a couplefor home . Lamb was ok . Quick service . Overall a good experience?
