This was my first time in Glencoe to watch a show at Writer's Theater, and I stopped by this place for a meal before the show. It seems to be the only Chinese restaurant in the entire town and also one of the few places both open at night and relatively affordable. My friend and I ordered the Walnut Shrimp Special and Sauteed Green Beans. We were told it would take 30 minutes, so we sat inside to wait, and the food came out right on time and piping hot. You can't dine in the restaurant though, as they don't have a dining license. 9 times out of 10, Chinese takeout will always hit for me, and Shanghai Garden was no exception. We were disappointed to find that our experience at Shanghai Garden did not align with the glowing reviews we had read. We were excited to try the Kung Pao Chicken, but it turned out to be one of the blandest dishes I've ever had. It tasted almost identical to the Chicken with Broccoli we also ordered. Not even a sprinkle of red pepper flakes could salvage it, and I was frustrated to find no red pepper pods in sight. Hey there, just wanted to say, please be weary of your egg-rolls. My coworker offered me his egg-roll from his lunch special and when I took a bite, I noticed the shrimp had not been properly deveined; meaning there was waste in my food.
