I was seriously impressed by the quality of the food at Soban and enjoyed the restaurant environment. Very cozy, home aesthetic! I dined in on a busy Saturday night and received prompt, friendly service throughout my stay. They offer fewer side dishes than other Korean restaurants, which I found out later when I asked is due to the style they 're emulating; 'Soban ' means smaller dining. Either way, I really enjoyed the few side dishes that they did offer. One was fried tofu in a delicious sweet and salty sauce, another was cucumbers in kimchi sauce (very light and crunchy), and the last was traditional kimchi. I also had the mandu appetizer, which was delicious, and miso soup. My main dish...

I'm really glad to have discovered this restaurant, especially since it's so close to my workplace. The food is absolutely amazing! Today, I had the tteokbokki with ramen noodles, along with a can of Milkis for lunch, and I was truly impressed by the quality of the meal. It also came with some delicious banchan on the side, which was a nice surprise. This might be the best tteokbokki I've ever had; it had a homemade taste and was delightfully spicy, which I loved. The dish was served hot, and the portion size was very generous—definitely a great value for the price. The packaging was done thoughtfully as well. Even though it was just a pick-up order, the overall service was excellent, and th...
I recently discovered this restaurant while driving by and returned for dinner. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff is friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious! We ordered the gungjung tteokbokki and seafood kalguksu, both of which were perfectly seasoned and incredibly flavorful. They also provided some banchan, and we were able to get refills, so we enjoyed plenty of kimchi with our meal, which was fantastic. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place!
Interestingly, I placed my order before the waitress handed us the menus, but she returned to ensure I was aware that my dish was spicy. I found it amusing—maybe she thought this white guy wouldn’t know what he was ordering! When our food arrived, they initially overlooked the Kimchi, so I had to request it. I wonder if they often encounter customers unfamiliar with Korean food. Regardless, we look forward to returning to this charming little restaurant in Evanston. Book a table now
Absolutely delicious! If you're looking for something hearty, the budae-jjigae is both spicy and satisfying. The tteokbokki has a sweeter flavor but still packs a spicy punch. The panchan (the small side dishes shown between the larger plates) provided a refreshing contrast to the spicier main courses.
This cozy Korean restaurant offers complimentary side dishes, which adds to the authentic dining experience. The food is delicious and served promptly. The servers are friendly, making it a true gem in Evanston. Food rating: 5/5.
Food 4 starsEnvironnement 5 starsStaff 5 starsPrice (because of small portion)Overall 4 starsStandard Korean food restaurant. Food tastes good. The portion is on the smaller side though, so order enough.
This cozy Korean restaurant offers excellent food and a lovely atmosphere. Although it can get busy, the delicious meals are well worth the wait. Don’t forget to bring your own bottle! Book a table now
The food is good, but the interior is average. The service is competent, but overall, it lacks that special element to make it truly exceptional.
Absolutely fantastic! I highly recommend this restaurant. All the side dishes were excellent, and the prices are very reasonable.
