We wanted a change of scenery and chose to eat at Spice Root, which was pleasantly uncrowded. The atmosphere is casual and simple, but the real star is the food quality. Their prices are very reasonable compared to other Indian restaurants nearby, and we had a generous meal for around $40 for two, including the tip. We ordered onion naan, Khadi Chicken, and the Tandoori Chicken Leg, which includes a half chicken with two thighs and two drumsticks. The spice level was perfect—enough heat to enhance the flavors without overpowering them. The service was attentive but not overbearing, creating a relaxed dining experience. Water is self-serve from a machine. I truly hope this place thrives...

First time reviewing a place in real time as I look at this poor quality food in front of me in flimsy paper plates. I don’t know how they have 4.8 stars. They are not worth it. Maybe things have gone downhill. The server lady was annoyed we are even here and flung the cutlery across the table. There’s unopened kitchen equipment on palets in the “restaurant”. Take a look at the “dry” chilli paneer that were told always has gravy in it, that’s a separate menu item btw. Please just spend your money at one of the places in Patel plaza instead of being “adventurous” like us, on a birthday no less ‍ Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

This place is a ripoff. While the place itself is neat with colorful seating and the limited service is acceptable, the food is served in small portions for the price. The papdi chaat $8.99) is just papdi with chutneys and yogurt topped with sev, grated beetroot and cilantro served on a small paper plate no choley, no potato. The vada pav $4.99) is smaller than its counterparts elsewhere. The paav bhaji $10.99) had decent bhaji but paav doused in butter. The masala chai $2) was the only thing we liked. Overall never repeating. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4 Book a table now

I used to enjoy dining at Spice Root By Kohinoor Indian Pakistani Decatur, but recently their service has declined. We placed an online order promising a 20-30 minute wait, yet we ended up waiting over an hour, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. There was no explanation given—just repeated assurances that our order was "almost ready" while we watched them pack it up. The food was good once it arrived, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

The food was incredible! The owners are a South Asian couple, and it genuinely felt like enjoying a home-cooked meal from my mom. The portion sizes were really generous, too. Typically, Chicken 65 is a small appetizer that you need to order twice, but I was served such a big helping! Don’t miss out on the desserts; the falooda was fantastic! I would rate it a perfect 12/10!

The food at Spice Root By Kohinoor Indian Pakistani in Decatur is exceptional. Although the dining area is fairly simple, we opted for takeout. The meals were perfectly seasoned, offering a pleasant heat that wasn’t overwhelming, with a rich blend of intriguing and complex flavors. I highly recommend this place—great quality at a reasonable price.

I've been visiting Spice Root in Decatur for years, and they always exceed my expectations. It's genuinely a hidden gem, serving some of the best Indian cuisine I've ever tried. The staff is incredibly friendly as well; the woman at the front even assisted me in carrying my food to my car. Book a table now
