Visited here on a staff night out for Christmas meal. Really weird place Let me tell you why on arrival. The place looks very grand and tidy from the outside and arriving inside a waitress. Was about to speak and then interrupted by what we presume to be the main manager that told us please? Would we like to go into the bar for drinks the bar area? Was a mismatch of décor and a funny type. Vibe with a drinks menu being given. And once drinks were given to us. The staff were more bothered about chatting behind the bar than serving customers. We were celebrating Mum's birthday with dinner at Spirit. The food was superb and we had lovely friendly service from greeting us at the door and wishing Mum a Happy Birthday to service at the bar and table. My nephew and I had the home made black pudding starter which was so moorish. The steak and triple cooked chips went down well with my brother and nephew. The haddock and vegetables were enjoyed by my sister and niece. Mum and I had the Beef Wellington which melted in the mouth. The Apple Tartin, Chocolate Fondant and Sticky Toffee Pudding were so delicious if you had room for more! My wife and I were looking forward to having dinner at the Spirit Restaurant, as we had been unable to go out for awhile. We had an aperitif in the lounge/bar area first, I chose the wine (Victoria Park Shiraz -recommended) and then through for dinner. Before the meal we were treated to an amuse bouche: a good start. My wife had chicken liver parfait, which she enjoyed; I had the homemade black pudding with fried egg etc which was excellent. Onto the mains and my wife had lamb wellington and I had the rib-eye. The customer service at this restaurant was poor from the beginning, with staff showing no interest in managing drink orders at the bar. Many tables were left waiting for their drinks as the staff stood around chatting and not paying attention. The starter we ordered had a strong off-smell and leaked either blood or black liquid. When we mentioned this to the owner, they seemed smug and egotistical, refusing to acknowledge that the quality of their food and service was subpar. We ended up paying £150-200 for our meal, but the owner continued to be rude and unapologetic in follow-up emails. Unfortunately, my partner became very ill after eating here. Went on Sunday 10th September for a family celebration, the roast beef was like leather, the pate was of very poor quality and food was cold,the Lady serving in the bar was not friendly I was getting drinks when my Grandson asked me for an orange juice and all of a sudden she said to him do me a favour don’t sit on the arm of the coach, it made a not welcoming atmosphere he is only 12 but I never complained I didn’t want to add to the unfriendly atmosphere and after some thought I needed to give this review, needless to say we will not be going back again they have lost are custom,if this is how they treat people they don’t deserve people to dine in their establishment.
We decided to try Spirit Christmas at Home, and it did not disappoint! The menu was fantastic, the instructions were easy to follow, and the food on Christmas Day was delicious and unforgettable. This is a stress-free option for celebrating Christmas, allowing everyone to choose their favorite dishes. I would highly recommend it. Truly top-notch!
New Years eve dinner. An evening of excellent food, great service and warm atmosphere. One of very few restaurants where you can be assured of first class food and service. We have eaten there for some years now, and whether it is Sunday lunch or a special occasion, Spirit never disappoints.
I visited this restaurant for the first time and I will definitely return. The fish was delicious, the best I have had in years, and the sticky toffee pudding was incredible!
