Located on a side street right on the market square of Michaelsbrunnen, Spitzhausen is fascinating to see. The narrow base of the house has a small footprint with the upper floor over its sides. His appearance reminds me of realists who talk about the use of the airspace over buildings. Currently, this 3-storey building is used as a pub/wine stick, but it was formerly a grape farm house in the early 15th. Century. Just off the Markt stands the Spitzhauschen. A 600 year old building, much photographed, and now a weinstube, in the hands of Weingut Schmitz whose wines can be enjoyed either inside the old building or in the narrow street. Excellent selection of wines which Herr Schmitz will tell you about. Do stop for a sample!
Built in 1416, the half-pointed house is probably the most photographed building in the city. Although not more picturesque than most houses in the city, its intrigue must be due to the fact that the ground floor is much narrower than the upper floors, which there is an unstable appearance.
We have visited Berncastle before and always come to look at this wonderful quirky house, our friends had never been to Germany before so this was a must see. We did not stop for a drink etc. as the place was too crowded.
