When we arrived at 5 pm, right as they opened, we were taken to a small table that could barely accommodate four people comfortably, or six if we squeezed in. There was no way we could fit seven plates on that table, let alone seven people. It took an additional 10-15 minutes to arrange for another small table to accommodate our group. Unfortunately, the service was painfully slow and disorganized. Been to Sportello several times because they have what is probably the best tagliatelle bolognese on the planet. Went here for my birthday last night and it was a little disappointing. It was remarkably busy for a Tuesday night and I think the waitstaff might have been struggling with that because everything took a really long time to arrive, from taking our order to the check (except our starter, that came out quickly). Also I asked for traditional seating when I reserved the table but got seated at the counter; the lack of back support or cushioning meant the seat was pretty uncomfortable. This was always my first stop whenever I'm in Boston but during my last two visits the quality had clearly gone down. The menu is still the same. The food still delicious if a little more carelessly put together. But the service has been frankly deplorable. I used to be able to count on friendly, attentive, professional. I've had great conversations at the counter with staff. No longer. This time not only did staff not take my order (even for drinks) for 20 minutes after being seated they seemed to be actively avoiding my attempts at eye contact and waves. I had a very decent meal here. Two things worth mentioning are the bread and gnocchi. The bread service is amazing and is well worth the cost. It comes with these pillowy soft bread donuts and some other things that I can't name but were so delicious. I'm thinking of returning just for the bread. I also loved the gnocchi it was pillowy soft and delicate. We were sat at the counter and I enjoyed watching all our dishes come together at the open kitchen, but I don't love counter seating, especially when there are no chair backs to hang coats and handbags. Our waitress was so friendly and overall the service was great.

I was surprised by the stark ambiance (everything is white laminate). We were the first to arrive at the restaurant so it felt very sterile. But the restaurant filled up quickly and it turned into a very lively modern vibe. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable but was quite slow in getting drinks. We had to wait about a half and hour. But the wine we had was fantastic! Three of us had the Bolognese and it was OUTSTANDING!! The fourth person in our group had the gnocchi and said it was very good too. So all in all it was a very good experience.
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! my son is a sous chef. So everytime we come to Boston. We make it a point to try a famous chefs restaurant. This is one of Barbra Lynch's restaurants. You can watch them prepare your food. So much fun. Just wanted to try everything on the menu. Everything we ordered was phenomenal!!! The flavors!!
Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had. We waited over an hour and a half for the first course, and it seemed like the chef had quit during our meal. We ended up leaving before we even got to try all our dinner options. Barbara Lynch, you are the Queen of Boston chefs—please get it together!
The cost is way too high compared to the size of food. The dinner size is about half compare to other Italian restaurants but at higher price, not to mention the food is not that tasty. Disappointed.

This used to be such a good restaurant. Sadly, the menu has not evolved, and the tagliatelle wasn't very good. Service was hit and miss. Our server forgot to order one of our entrees.
The service was a little too impersonal for me.    I know what the name translates to but the service seemed to match the typical lunch counter service. Barely adequate
