Don Monk is the master chef at Spring Vale Wines whose pop-up restaurant in the grounds of the winery is a wonderful addition to an already magical wonderland.Nestled among the vines of the Great Eastern Drive, my TV crew experienced one of the most incredible gourmet meals. All produce and ingredients were local grown or farmed. The plumpest, fattest, juiciest oysters (natural and Kilpatrick were complemented with excellent scallops drizzled with a unique hazelnut sauce and coriander. What followed was mouth-watering.Don delivered the freshest crayfish and preceded to open and prepare with the finest and tastiest topping and sauces. Throw in a Caesar salad and wash it down with a Spring Vale...

Had lunch here recently when staying in Bicheno. We were there with kids and two of us were vegetarians. There were not really any decent options. One of us had a goats cheese tart that was just two pastry cases stuffed with a LOT of goats cheese and topped with pickled walnuts or sun dried tomatoes. It was far too salty and rich; quite difficult to eat. The octopus was OK but would arguably have been improved by taking away the pesto. Prawns were good but everything was pretty light on. Not sure whether the food is meant to be 'tapas style' but these were not really substantial main meals. I get that they are trying to run a business that is very seasonal and the idea is a good one, but a b...

We stopped by for lunch and were impressed by the picturesque setting and the round tables that overlooked the vineyard. We opted for the Tasting Menu and tried various dishes including Pizza bread, goats' cheese tartlets, garlic prawns, and char-grilled Bass Strait octopus. While we enjoyed the flavors, the tasting plates were on the smaller side and more akin to tapas plates. The Share plates looked enticing, but weren't the best fit for our group of vegetarians and children. In hindsight, ordering more tasting plates or opting for the share plates and cheeseboard would have provided a wider range of options and a more filling meal. This vineyard is popular for its "pop-up" lunch concept a...

We had the Seafood Platter at $109 for 2/3 people. It was great for 2 but probably would have needed another dish added for 3. Everything was superb as far as the food was concerned and we couldn't fault the taste and freshness of any of it.Just found the tiny paper plates, flimsy paper serviettes and the "cafe like" service not quite what we expected. Also we could have done with some implements to really enjoy the harder regions of the crayfish - I felt we wasted parts by not being able to crack them open.Despite these few issues we had a fabulous lunch and recommend it. Were out for a Sat arvo drive from Hobart, with my wife. We came across the entrance to the vineyard, and restaurant. Down the entrance drive to a large canopy, with a rustic style kithchen. Well looks can be deceiving. Perfect outlook out into the vines. The menu was basic, but the food was excellent. Hopefully the chef can do a deal with the family, & be back there in November. Well worth the 2 hour drive up. By the way the wine was great. Look forward to going back up in November, December.

The food was delicious and well-presented, definitely a step above the usual fare you find in this area. I particularly enjoyed the seafood dishes, fresh and flavorful. Overall, a pleasant dining experience in a charming, peaceful setting. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice meal by the water.
