I read about this cafe in Rick Steves' travel book about Scotland, and since we were staying in a hotel nearby, we checked it out for our first lunch in Edinburgh. We loved it! The staff was delightful and the food delicious. We felt immediately...at home there and not like tourists or strangers. It was as if we were visiting our local church for a meal with friends. We made sure to go back for our last lunch before we headed home to the states. We highly recommend this charming place in the heart of New Town if you want great food for a really good price in a comfortable setting.
Had been told about this cafe from a friend. Not a place you would notice unless you knew about it as hidden inside the church. Lady serving was very friendly. Latte was very good but perhaps at for a small one and for...a large was a little more expensive than other places. Tasty fruit scone with butter and small jar of jam very good at Prices for lunch items on the board looked very good but didn't see portion sizes. Book a table now
We were here in August for the Festival. Husband and I had the fantastic Cullen Skink haddock and potato soup. It was possibly the best soup I have ever tasted and cost something like with a huge hunk of lovely bread too. A...fabulous and economical alternative to global coffee chain not-again paninnis. Low on frills, warm on welcome, very very high on quality of soup!
I’m honestly mostly writing this review just because the people were so kind and welcoming but it’s also a great value! I had a delicious ham&cheese sandwich with a nice scone. It is tucked away a little bit, in the basement of a larger building....No problem to find it on a map though.
Always a warm reception when you go here, the food is always fresh and sometimes unusual, you will love it. Go back frequently.
Lovely creamy rich coffee on a dull drizzly day was just what the doctor ordered. Good furnishings upstairs. Book a table now
