Sitting for lunch on weekday and it wasn't full. I had three tables of locals who slept their beer. No English menu and we had to translate google. Ordered a page and a carving that never came after 45 minutes when the waitress cleared our side. After all, we got her attention and she forgot. Just a bit disappointed - can't believe that she didn't think something was wrong when we sat for 45mins with our phones. On a side note we went to the bar to look around the waitress, as she was not there when we needed her, and there was an elderly person who shined at us and shaved his head every time we did. Not sure if it was a culture thing, but we weren't even disturbing their business, so it was...
We visited the city cellars after visiting the Concentration Memorial, which is easily accessible and close to the palace and gardens. We dropped a stop in front of the station and drove there ten minutes on foot. The food was delicious and our waitress was really nice and happy to chat even though only a little English her English was clearly better than our German). She even recommended a drink selection! It is a beautiful beer garden in a quiet location and if you are finished, you can easily walk to the palace. Food was great and reasonable prices!
This little jewel found and I'm so glad we tried. It is a very small restaurant with a local atmosphere. All were very friendly. Our waitress spoke enough English to help us understand the different dishes and make suggestions. Cold Spates, enormously perfect carving, German potato salad and sauerkraut, finished with a shot of Ouzo.
Just 10 minutes walk from the train station, a very local pub that has a large carving. We were the only tourists there for the hour or so that we visited, but the waitress was beautiful and served us with a welcoming smile. Perfect comfort food after a long day walking!
