First visit here after lots of recommendations. The pub and restaurant are beautiful a traditional pub married with the contemporary. However, we had Sunday roasts sirloin. Given the Michelin star we expected something special for £30. The meat was full of fat. The vegetables were bland. The gravy too thin to taste. The roast potatoes were nice and the Yorkshire pudding crispy. I’ve eaten Sunday lunch all over the place and this didn’t make the top 50. I live in York, recently moved from London for work. My Mother visited for the weekend and we looked for best Sunday roast near York... and found The Star Inn. The reviews and description sounded amazing. Also, wanted to tie in a walk so the surrounding area allowed a morning walk followed by a lovely dinner. Michelin starred gastropub with options to stay over. Very informal fine dining (as we like it! The rooms are lovely, spacious and our room had a good shower. Each room is individual so check what you are getting when booking. The lodge has a lounge for guests and you can have a drink (or two before you go to dinner. Wow, our second visit to this lovely place but our first since their fire. They've done a great job rebuilding, you really wouldn't know until you look through the book of photos showing the fire damage and the repair journey. Food was amazing, I even tried mussels for the first time. Staff are very knowledgeable about the food which is well sourced. Service: 5
