Awful ..no personal service ..slow Luke warm food I suspect had been left on the pass as I felt we were neither liked or wanted there as we had arrived early and been given an awful reception from I assume the landlady ...we waited almost one hour for our meals. No one came to our table after food served, to check all was ok ..no one thanked us as we left ...no apology for the long wait other than to look for reasons and excuses for a large party arriving first although Thier meals had all been pre ordered so should of made it much easier for the kitchen as they would of known how many and what they had ordered . I called in recently for a lunchtime pint and bite to eat. The pub was warm, inviting and busier than I would have expected on a traditionally quiet day. However, this had no impact on my experience or the service I received. Food and drink delivered swiftly and with a smile by the same team on my previous visit. This speaks volumes to me. Staff retention is an indicator of a well-run business. The genuinely friendly yet unintrusive service hits the right note for me and deserves to be recognised. Well done Team Star! Keep up the good work.
We love coming to The Star, both as a couple and as a family because of the cosy traditional pub inn atmosphere, the service friendly staff, and the quality of the food. With Christmas just around the corner, we decided to go for the festive menu, and it didn't disappoint. The flavours were delicious, portions generous for adults and children alike, and once again, the service was exceptional. And a bonus it was lovely and warm! I find that quite a lot of eateries tend to feel airy and quite cold this time of year.
Good food. Always busy and worth booking. We went in as visitors to the area. We were advised that we could have up to a 45 min wait. We accepted this . We were then shown to a table within 20 mins Being coeliac, the staff were helpful in providing appropriate meals too. All in all, a friendly pub with good pub food type meals Book a table now
Lovely feel to this pub, low Ceilings, nice tables, area for sofas and dog are allowed in certain parts. Had a Sunday dinner which was beautiful, the beef fell apart and the roast potatoes were amazing. Gluten free was an option, which is excellent, but they didn't do a gluten free Yorkshire pudding which is a shame
A warm welcome in a cosy atmosphere. Food was good. Nachos followed by hearty burgers with chunky chips. Staff were all very happy to help and service was excellent. The pub became very busy as it happened to be quiz night. This just added to our visit and it was great seeing people out and enjoying themselves!
I thoroughly recommend this location. Ten of us went for dinner including a baby. The staff were very welcoming. A great range on the menu with very reasonable prices. The food was excellent and we were not waiting long for it. We will definitely return on our next visit to Wales!
Very happily surprised!!! Hubby and I went for dinner 6/11/23. We had starters and then Rump and Sirloin steaks. Best quality and cooked to perfection. Usually a rare steak in a pub is over cooked. Not here. Total bill for 2 starters and mains plus drinks was £45. Great value. Book a table now
Since the recent demise of the Merrie Harrier in Llandough following several changes of ownership, this place has become our new local (even if it means a short drive or taxi ride). All our boxes are ticked: -Friendly staff -Fabulous food -Great service
Packed out, but they still found space for us. Lovely gentleman looked after us and made sure we didn't rush and nothing was too much bother. Definitely go again as good value for money.

"Popped in at 2.15 pm on a quiet Friday- asked very unfriendly landlady if we could play darts- she refused saying it is only for darts team to use and that tables were booked. Only table used was no where near the dart board."
