I went to Sushi Bistro last night with my husband, since we found a groupon. There were two other tables occupied when we arrived. We were seated promptly and given waters to drink. There was a family with a small child sitting close to one of the TVs, which was playing a toddler's show. We could hear the show all the way across the room, and asked if there was any way they could turn the sound off. The waitress said, no because the baby was watching the show. While I understand that parents should be able to eat out and enjoy their meal, this is a restaurant- others shouldn't have to listen to voices and music from a baby show while trying to enjoy dinner. Another good meal at Sushi Bistro... and that $25 for $50 Groupon that seems to always be available makes it a touch more affordable. This time we ordered the Pink Lady (one of our favs here), The Fancy Dragon (we love eel), and the 2nd Base plate. The 2nd Base gets you 3 different rolls... A rainbow, a tuna roll, and a California roll. The combo plates like this one seem like the best value in that you get 3 rolls for $18. But be careful, the Groupon won't work with all of the combo plates. The rolls are always prepared nicely. I like that this place doesn't over do it with any sauces. It seems like more and more sushi spots are slathering every roll with eel sauce and mayo sauce... so much...
One of our favorites is the rainbow roll, which we often reorder. While I've had better versions elsewhere, theirs is a solid interpretation. I've also sampled their squid salad, which I like. The portion is quite generous for one person, and the squid pieces are larger than what’s typically found at other places. The flavor is on par with competitors, which is a positive aspect! When you arrive, instead of a piece of paper to note your order, you'll receive a nice, extensive menu featuring a variety of rolls, and a server will take your order, whether for rolls or other items. After trying Graham's in Webster only to find it was closed (on a Sunday at 5pm? , we drove over to see if Manila Bistro was open (it also was not... , so we saw this new place and decided to eat here. Just the high points (which are the entire experience! Amazing server and best service ever. I spilled soy sauce on my jacket, she brought me club soda, AND offered to put in a bowl to soak it back in the kitchen. She checked up on us, and recommended what sauces we should pair with which dishes. Amazing food the godzilla roll is even better than my old favorite roll (the fried cheesesteak at Drunken Fish . Oh, Groupon how I love you! We were in the Kirkwood area, so I took a look to see if any restaurants around were offering a Groupon deal... and there was Sushi Bistro! This place really earns the Yelp A OK rating good food, good prices, nice atmosphere but nothing to write home about. They have an extensive sushi menu, as well as a robust selection of additional entrees hibachi, tempura, teriyaki. The service was friendly and timely everything was clean and tastefully designed. Seems like a nice place to grab a tasty, reasonably priced menu (they had a really good selection of lunch specials) if you 're in the area but I wouldn 't travel any great distance to have it again. I ordered the "I Like Sashimi" plate, which was a decent deal at $25 for 16 pieces. However, the quality of the fish wasn't great. Some of the pieces were tough and had bloodlines still visible. I sat at the bar, and I noticed that the tables could have been cleaned more thoroughly. Before I left, I realized that the only person making sushi was also the bartender mixing drinks, which raised concerns about cleanliness. Overall, the sushi was underwhelming, the decor felt generic, and the staff seemed indifferent.
If you enjoy ham sandwiches....Then this is the place for you. After eating the most bland chicken fried rice I've ever eaten. I came home to make said ham sandwich. Only to discover I had no bread. In regards to the sushi my fiancée had the displeasure of eating.... well Aldi sells a great roll for pretty cheap which I discovered during my trip up there for bread.
I stumbled upon this hidden gem, and what a delight it was! The vegetables were fresh and delicious, the salmon was cooked to perfection, and the rice was amazing—I really wish I could have had more. I’ll definitely be bookmarking this place for my next visit to town! Book a table now
Love coming here! Their Sushi is fresh and the Manager is always willing to accommodate special request. Downtown Kirkwood has a jewel!
