"I really enjoyed this restaurant. It opens a bit earlier than most (8 pm) and filled up quickly. The hake (merluza) was outstanding. Nice tables upstairs with view of the square. The Martin Coxas albarino wine was delicious."

My husband and I were looking for a light but tasty meal and ended up on this lovely square in Pontevedra at O Cruceiro. The lady running it was very friendly and spoke amazing English since our Spanish wasn’t great. We asked about their soup since it was a chilly night and she told us it was a local Galician soup. We also got their homemade croquettes in 3 flavours (spinach, chicken and pork . The soup was sooooo delicious but also simple with lovely bread. The croquettes had great seasoning and flavour as well, especially the spinach one with garlic. We truly enjoyed this simple meal and the lady running the place :

O Cruceiro has a good location on a nice little plaza in the old town, with a lot of outdoor seating overlooking the plaza. So that's great. And the service was attentive at times, but it turns out not very helpful. I thought I was getting tapas, but the plates are actually full servings, so I got full meals of squid, ham and chicken with enough potatoes to feed a bus! All the food was fine, but clearly a step down from the other places I went to in town. And probably a little less expensive too, so I guess there is some parity there. I would say it's not a bad choice, I just wasn't amazed.

The great location of this restaurant makes reaching it by any means very easy, it is at any crossroads in the north-south, east-west of the city and next to the Parador de Pontevedra The square in which it is located is charming and beautiful, it has a pilgrim's cross and the house of Valle Inclan next to it. It has a large terrace in the middle of the square where I recommend eating enjoying the landscape and the countryside. Your staff is very active. Their service is always careful and you will pay low prices for the taste of Galician food and the atmosphere that they offer you.

Extensive range of attractively presented tapas represent the meat, fish, cheeses and vegetable flavours of Galicia. The wine list is small, but offers quaffable and finer options at entirely reasonable prices. Service is swift and friendly.
