20 July 2017<br/ <br/ After planning to dine at Tobaki Korean BBQ my brother-in-law says he would prefer to dine at Taste of Penang which is 20 metres away. We sit at a vacant table and I order five dishes to try. <br/ <br/ It is quite busy tonight and it is 30 minutes before the Har Mee (Prawn Noodle) and Char Kueh Teow are served. Unlike my last meal here, the Har Mee serving is once again a 'full ' bowl of noodles. Rating: 4.5/5.0 <br/ The Char Kueh Teow serving is 30% larger than last month 's serving. And the noodles are delicious with the fragrant 'wok hei ' aroma. <br/ Rating: 5.0/5.0<br/ The Lobak tonight is the most authentic I have tasted in Brisbane. <br/ Rating: 4.5/5.0<br/ The C...

This is our go to place for Malaysian cuisine on the south side now. If you feel like some Asian street food, this is the place to be.<br/ <br/ Their Penang Kuey Teow is one of the best Kuey Teow I've had. You can choose how spicy you want the dish to be, which is really important. I always order mine as medium hot, as I think this gives the noodles enough kick while not being overpoweringly hot to the point that you can't taste any other flavour. One of the best things I love about their kuey teow is the temperature they serve it in. Every time we eat there it's always really hot, as if you are eating off the wok. You can also tell from the fragrance and taste that the food was fried at a h...

I have been waiting patiently to try this place ever since reading Joe K's appraisal since I have been looking for good Malaysian food in Brisbane for a while. So a group of us went tonight and we ordered the curry puffs, satay chicken, satay beef, nasi lemak with chicken curry, beef rendang and sambal prawns, char kway teow and mee goreng. In general, the flavours of the dishes were good. Reminiscent of Malaysian food I have had in Malaysia. If you are looking for some real Malaysian flavoured food, this is one of the few places in Brisbane that gets close. The satay chicken, chicken curry, beef rendang and char kway teow in particular were very good. Not as impressed with the coconut rice a...

I do love this place. It 's pretty hard to get a seat on the weekends though. I tend to come weekdays for lunch. Nice 'wok hey ' and yummy aromas coming from the kitchen.<br/ <br/ I 've enjoyed basically everything I 've had here. Good heat on the dishes which you can ask to make mild. Penang Har Mee is my favorite. I also like to try the kueh. <br/ <br/ The only downside is that it is a little pricer for a regular lunch for me. Pushing $14 per dish I personally find it hard to eat here often as I try to find places with lunch specials. But when I 'm here I 'm glad I came back. I 'm not Malaysian or even been to Penang but it 's definitely to my personal taste.<br/ <br/ There is a public toi... Book a table now

My Malaysian mate brought me there, saying that the fried kuey teow there was the best but other dishes were so so. Penang Fried Kuey Teow was as yummy as he had recommended. The Har Mee, prawn noodle soup, was not too bad as we could taste the natural sweetness of prawn broth. I myself didn't like it much for the fact that there was no vegetable-just noodle and prawns. Chee Cheong Fun, steamed rice rolls with sweet sauce and shrimp paste, was quite nice; somehow, it was way too sweet for me. Nasi Lekmak with prawn sambal was pretty good, and Lobak, deep fried five spice pork rolls were alright too. Overall the food was acceptable and the prices were very reasonable. If adding up a bit of be...

Is it the best char keuy teow ive ever eaten, not really. But is it good enough? Yes it is. It's unfair on them because I love chat keuy teow because of the semi-raw blood cockles that are quite rare here in Aus. <br/ <br/ We ordered the vegetarian spring rolls and curry puffs as well. <br/ <br/ None of them were out of this world amazing. But I'm intrigued to try the other dishes, hopefully I time it right in future and get to eat a bowl of Assam laksa <br/ <br/ In saying that, if I lived close by, this would definitely be a regular takeaway joint

Any Malaysian spending longer than 3 months in a foreign county will have their heads going crazy for some food from home. Was I satiated? Beyond words. Taste of penang serves authentic Malaysian food. No kidding. Don't let its appearance of dull/simple decor fool you. It's the magic going on in the kitchen that matters. I commute 30km to this place regularly and waltz down memory lane while I chug on their noodles and rice dishes. To be fair, not everything is spectacular. I've had better nasi lemak elsewhere. But CKT here is definitely the bomb.

Great option for Malaysian food. My husband is Malaysian and we both miss authentic food in Brisbane. <br/ <br/ As per other reviews yes I agree best Kway Teow in Brisbane nice char to the noodle. I just wish the noodles were wider and there was a bit more sausage.<br/ <br/ Prawn Mee was nice and tasty. Food comes out quick and hot. It's literally a hole in the wall so reduce your expectations but who needs walls when the food is this yum!<br/ <br/ They also have Kueh but it sells out quickly. <br/ <br/ Still I'll be back!! As great as ever!! The Owner is still the same sweetie as when he opened the shop 5 yrs ago. He continued to remember me as a repeat customer for all these years. The Noodles are my fav though have shrunk in size so I got the Roti and Dhal for something different which was perfect!! Perfect size for an average/ small eater but prices have changed from this website since the beginning of the year which I had forgotten about. Cash only. So I told the owner got a new menu.Grace Lung
