I typically avoid writing one-star reviews, but I feel it's necessary to share my experience because Village Hummus has unfortunately closed down (it was wonderful!). The location has since transformed into Tastee Grill, which is disappointing. Strangely, they are still utilizing Village Hummus’s Yelp page. Even though it's the same site, the restaurant experience is completely different. The food at Tastee Grill is lackluster, and I feel for anyone who mistakenly orders from here thinking they're getting Village Hummus. I've reported this to Yelp, but they haven't done anything about it yet. This situation really needs to be resolved.

I just had a really wonderful Chicken plate from Ciya in HMB and was craving for hummus and some chicken kebab so I browsed on Doordash for restaurants in the San Mateo area serving Mediterreanean food and food Village Hummus.I ordered the Chicken Kebab plate and and it was not good at all. The grilled chicken was tough and the hummus was not good at all Trader Joe's hummus is better in my opinion. The Tahini that I got tasted bad, like spoiling or something. I sure hope I won't have a tummy ache later or food poisoning.I won't be back!
I can hardly express how terrible my meal was at this restaurant. The rice and chicken tasted like spoiled sour milk—absolutely disgusting! I highly advise against ordering from here. The food is anything but fresh; in fact, it's the worst I've ever encountered! It seems like they simply reheat old, spoiled dishes. If I end up with food poisoning in the next few hours or even tomorrow, I won't hesitate to report them. I'm truly shocked by the poor quality and the complete disregard for providing customers with acceptable food.
Overall a bad experience.I ordered a falafel plate and it was cold. Humus was not fresh and tasted really bad. When we arrived it looked like an abandoned place. No one came to greet us, after 10 minutes one of the cooks came up and said order on the tablet and get a seat anywhere. They didn't even bother to turn on the lights. I won't be coming back. This place has changed hands and is now called Tastee Grill. It's under new ownership and it is awful. Do your doctor and your wallet a favor, stay away from this place. I have had Mediterranean food and this is not it. Try Cobani on West 25th or Hummus Mediterranean kitchen, downtown San Mateo . This place gives Mediterranean food a bad name.
I don’t understand this place. A Hummus, Italian, Breakfast joint?! The food was TERRIBLE and deserts were frozen. Rent can’t be cheap here, I’d be surprised if they make it to end of year. Very nice staff but awful product and business plan.
Don’t order from here. They pop up on Uber eats as vegan burger house but will steal your money. I ordered tonight. Food didn’t turn up and conveniently the place was closed when my food was supposedly delivered but never arrived. Avoid.
The place is kinda...sketchy? ? as it's like a mix of a few different restaurants at the same place. But, the pita sandwich is real good and it's a LOT of meat for the bucks. The grilled eggplant is quite tasty if you like spicy food. Book a table now
The food here never lets us down and always leaves us feeling satisfied. My friends and I are consistently amazed by how delicious everything is. I highly recommend this restaurant—you’re bound to love it!
